Turn Signal Bulbs

Post by jetboy »

So I've successfully wired my front factory non-working turn signals to function as running lights. I initially went to change them to white from the yellow thinking they were 1156 bulbs based on the process found in the technical library (Thanks for that by the way! I did it a little differently though - I tapped into the power before it hit the hi/lo headlight switch).

I bought 1156s, then removed the stock ones, and noticed the stock ones have the same base as an 1156 but the bulb is smaller. So I returned the 1156s and bought some clear ones (marked "97", at Advance Auto Parts) that physically were the same size as the stock bulbs, but they look really dull below the halogen headlight, so I put the stock yellow ones back in. The stock bulbs seemed brighter and would therefore provide the increased conspicuity I'm looking for. But I really want white ones. I'm not at the point that I want to spring for $30 worth of LED 1156s, so I'm wondering just what kind of bulbs we're dealing with as a stock item.

Do 1156s actually fit in that space? I don't want to melt the plastic lens. There's also the issue of what to replace the stock ones with if/when they burn out.

I haven't found the solution using the search function. Anyone have some insight?
