Hiflo 183 oil filter

Been trying to search for any good DIY tools/ways to install this filter on my buddy 125. Unlike the OEM filter, it doesn't have the 17 mm nut attached to it, and its a pretty tight fit between the center stand and the engine to get enough torque on it(12 - 15 ft lbs) with just my hand, as I've read the horror stories of members who thought "hand tight" was enough as it usually is for a regular automobile. The filter sockets that I have seen at auto parts stores, and the two sizes I own, are too big for the approx. 2 1/8 diameter filter. I thought I read another post where another member said another Hiflo filter part number had the "nut" attached to the top and it could be used in Lieu of the HF183, as they were supposedly interchangeable, but this part number(Hf183) is what my dealer gave me today. Just looking for some input from fellow members, as I'm sure this topic has been covered extensively, but I just can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for as of yet, but will keep searching in the mean time. yes it i the same filter, you are good there.

I have a T handle large screwdriver that I use on the slotted end to torque it tight, but its not a common tool and it just reaches in there. You could use an oil filter nylon "strap-wrench" or be VERY careful and wrap it in rubber ( old innertube) and use a big channel lock, but be careful, I haven't tried that, just throwing out a suggestion.

I get the vespa badged version of this filter. Same price (approx $10.00) and installs easily with the hex on the bottom.

ScooterWest also sells a nifty little tool that works great for removing and attaching the HF183 filter in the limited clearance available.

I had to use one of those filters because my local dealer was sold out of the ones with the 17 mm nut on the end. To get it tight I used a chisel in the groove, it worked but not ideal. When the dealer gets more of the other kind I will probably stock up so since it is so much easier to do it with a socket wrench.

But still doesn't help with torquing the filter on. For that, you may need to find a shallow 21mm socket that will fit.
