Serv. plan costs. does this sound right?

Post by bbasileox »

I just got my 2014 buddy 50cc a couple weeks ago. I have to go in for the 200 mile check up..this is my first time dealing with anything like this so bare with me.

Is $119 a good price? or too much?
They tell me they do a whole bunch of stuff..so idk i just don't want to be ripped off my dealer.

All you need to do is change the gear oil which will cost you less that 5 bucks if you do it yourself.

Probably worth it to keep the warranty active. After the first service you can do it yourself. The price isn't bad if they do a complete checkup. I think I paid about $150 for my 125 seven years ago and have done everything myself since then.

The first service involves more than just changing the gear oil. It also includes an inspection to ensure that everything is holding together and breaking in properly. Depending on how thorough they are, that can involve a bit of labor, so I wouldn't say that $119 is a rip-off. And since having the first one done by the dealer is required to maintain the warranty, it's worth paying.

You are right on the warranty so that is important, however, I have my doubts that all dealerships do much of a "inspection". Mine just changed the engine and gear oil. No inspection or valve adjustment. I know this because I talked to the mechanic. At the time I just wanted my scoot back so I did the valves myself the next weekend. But, as you said, the first service must be done for warranty purposes.

Just do it for the warranty, I have saved over a grand already using that and I finally feel confident in the reliability of my Stella.
