NSR-RIP Dan Fogelberg

Post by mattgordon »

For those of us old enough to remember him, musician-composer Dan Fogelberg passed away today....more songs and hits than many may know off the top of their heads. Kind of poignant time-wise, as his hit Same Old Lang Syne is a holiday season song popular each year at this time....

I remember cleaning floors ,at night, at the local HEB grocery store when I was a senior in HS. That would have been in 80/81. I remember Dan's songs playing over the PA system. It set a point in time I never could forget. He was a great musician/song writer.

By the way if your over 50 (40 if family history) get your prostate exam and PSA test anually.

I saw him in concert during the "Innocent Age" tour. He was excellent. Hevput out some really cool mellow music--great for chilling out. I remember him introducing "Same olde Lang Syne" during the concert and commenting that he thought it was a stupid song when he first wrote it! Cracked me up although some in the crowd booed him for it....

I liked some of his music.
He died from Prostate Cancer – nearly every man will get some form of this cancer eventfully – intrusive but it needs to be checked out by a doc.

Wow, that hits home for me.

His music (and others) were the soundtrack for my high school years, and I learned a big chunk of my guitar playing from his songs. I still play some of them and "Souvenirs" is still one of my all time favorite recordings.

He was a really good guitar player, and oft over looked when naming the littany of guitar greats from the 70's in my opinion. I saw him play live during the 80's some time, by the Intrepid in NYC. He sounded great live, a real musician instead of a manufactured poser.

I didn't know he was sick, since I haven't really followed his career for the last twenty years or so. Rest in peace man.

I listened to my cassette of "The Innocent Age" so much it got warped. I loved his story telling lyrics. I too had lost track of him these last several years. Sorry to hear of his passing.

It was probably a year ago that I was converting some of my music into MP3's with the oldest Fogelberg music was on my list. I got curious about what was current and found his website, only to discover that a major subject on his site was his medical condition. When I visited Doctor Jennifer for my next checkup, I made sure to learn (and ask) more about prostrate issues.

RIP D.F. .........there's been a lot of good memories revisited the last few days, the acoustic concert one of my all time favorites.
