Actually, depending on what kind of filter you get, you may need one or the other—slotted or hex. I've been planning on getting them both for some time... soon...

I just got both as I was headed for an oil change and wanted to make sure I had a good tool to keep the filter tight.

Thankfully I haven't needed the wrenches (glad I bought both because my dealer used a slot-type filter), but they are nice and compact and I'm happy to be riding around with them in my toolkit.

Doing anything right always comes down to the right tools and these things are the right tools for tightening your filter.

I just use a spark plug socket. 2 uses in one tool.
