Not-dead-anymore Buddy update

Post by Keys »

Just so everyone knows what to expect should you experience total shutdown like I did, Ron, the mechanic at Scoot Over solved my dead Buddy issue this morning.

Apparently, the coil has a ground wire that is spliced into a main ground wire that services the fuel guage, tailight, dash lights...in fact, most everything. Since everything else works, we didn't really think that was the problem. HOWEVER!! It would seem that the wire was not connected well where it is spliced and if a bump was hit just right, the connection was broken and "POOF!" no more go! Ron played with his meter and determined that was the problem, grounded the coil directly to the engine and BEHOLD! It worked! Didn't even have to replace the stator. It was fine.

So, if you have the situation where you are just riding along and your scooter suddenly quits running, suggest this possibility to your mechanic...

I hope to get it back soon...

That's great news! And definitely something to keep in mind should anyone else come across this problem (though hopefully no one will!).

Glad to hear it. Electrical gremlins can be heck to find. Sounds like Ron at Scoot Over was the right man for the job. Kudos to him!

You're on, Isaac...bring Jes' Jim and Pam with you and we'll make a run of it up Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff. You'll dig it! Pam owes me a ride anyway...

Great to hear that your scoot is back in action

So from what I read the original problem was not the stator?
It was just (easy to say) the ground splice?

It would appear that is, indeed, the case. However, we can't test the original stator to find out since it was shipped back to Genuine.
