Time to say hello? :-)

Post by Kurzer »

So I've replied to some posts and read a LOT of posts trying VERY hard to not reply to posts older than me. I found this site through Google. I picked up a Buddy 125 last week after doing about 3 months of research to figure out what I wanted, why and went out and got a little sore test riding. I got black, sorry orange guys... I went to go look at a sunset buddy but I was a little bummed when the color in the mags and the color in person didn't match quite right, it's a much brighter orange in the mags.

I'm 30, a Libra and like long wal....... wait, this is the scooter forum.

I'm near Portland, Oregon. I have a few toys and very much enjoy riding. The buddy fits right between where the 50 ends and where the 600 begins (in 5th gear). I'm digging it so far, a few mods already finished, a rally already planned and more mods to come.

By day I sit in a cube and play Second Life, surf the net and hope my boss overlooks me yet another day... sometimes I even wear a tie. By night, I don the Icon gear and warm up my Triumph Daytona 600 on some nice mountain roads before meeting up at Starbucks with friends. After that, we usually go to an undisclosed location and do some stunts, some top gear runs out at the airport or just general mayhem on public motorways. (Yes, I'm aware of the dangers, but thank you for the concern) splitting lanes, wheelies for miles, running from peace officers, burnouts, stoppies... all very dangerous acts with potential critical consequence so don't do them mmmmm kay

I've got just under 10 years riding and knock on wood, haven't needed to call my insurance agent yet... or my doctor. I've had some pretty close calls and I can for sure say that training makes a difference! Take a class, read a book, watch a video... then go practice practice practice... it will save your backside one day, guaranteed.

When I'm not riding, I used to wrench on my Audi. I sold it last summer and picked up an 88 Subaru Justy... now I just cry silently when I can't ride.
I do all my work myself because I trust very few people to ride, drive or work on my toys. I like to tinker and can't leave well enough alone. I picked up an 06 Rabbit for my wife a few months ago and every time I get near it she yells at me.... but it really does need an exhaust...

Anyhow, with the purchase of the Buddy, you all have to put up with me now like it or not, so just get over it :P

I do like to be active in whatever I'm doing... so if there's anything I can do to help the forum or it's members, I will try to do that as much as possible. I tinker a little in Photoshop and can make banners, sigs, icons, whatnot.. I build websites in my spare time. I'm admin on two street racing sites (street racing is evil, don't do it) an Audi site and a gaming site, but anything I can do to help out, I will for sure put all my effort into (see my other post on links to service manuals).

Yes, I will get some pics up sooner or later :D

You all seem to be a top notch group and I'm happy to be here.

Cheers,
Tim

Howdy and welcome. Thanks for the introduction. I just bumped our long-dormant "who are you IRL" thread here: topic221.html.

Mods, you say? What have you done in the first week?
Eric // LA Scooter Meetup Group // Stella 4T // Vespa LX // Vespa LXS // Honda Helix // some, uh, projects…

So far, connected the Euro signals, removed the mirrors and US signals, modified the headlamp to accept an H1 halogen, fitted the charge dongle, modified the battery cover to fit the charge dongle.

Pretty much anything I can do with no parts, lots of tools and whatever I find in the garage. I hesitated to call them "mods" but it just came out.

This weekend is a K&N, exhaust and talk to some people about jetting it to run a little richer.

Coming soonish:
- HID or LED lamp, depending on how much money I have to spend and how frisky I feel about spending time in the garage while it's sunny out.
- Neon rear lamp... that will be a fun project... almost as fun as working on a Volkswagen
- Sticky rubber, Conti makes a nice looking tread, thinking about white walls just for looks
- LED gauge cluster bulbs, maybe red? undecided as of yet
- Nitro charged coil over for the rear
- Remove the side stand
- Paint the silver flat black for now
- Install the top case
- Install speakers, amp, crossovers and mp3 connection

Coming next summer:
- Secret paint project, I'll say it's a TVR color, but that's all
- Big bore, is one made yet?
- Supercharger, jetting with be a bitch... but worth it
- Reupholster the seat, more padding, maybe suede to match the bike

Any other ideas? I'm open to suggestions :D

Hello;

Bore kits are just a rumor now.
But, you mentioned a blower?
I’ve heard of people trying to blow a small motor but never seen success, do you know of someone that got good results?

I've heard of the trials with trying to blow a small motor, so I'm going to try and use an echarger or possibly the backwoods model, more commonly known as the bilge pump. I'm not sure how successful the project will be, but it's something I've always wanted to do.
I've been soaking up all I can on the turbos on those jet skis a while back, trying to see if I can learn anything from them. We'll see how the info pans out and determine how the project goes. I would for sure like to get some sort of forced induction in there if nothing else, for the looks it would get.

I'm near Washington Square in Tigard. I love the access to all the back roads from my location :D

Turbos and single cyclinders don’t go well together.

...as for the "richness" issue, I put a SuperTrapp muffler on mine without changing the air intake and as a result, it richened the mixture a bit. Something to think about. Also, if you put a K&N filter on, you MAY find it changes the way the CV carburetor works. You may end up having to use a slide-type carb. Any change to the air intake will change the vacuum characteristics.

Also, you shoulda waited for the 675...
