Decent price / Warranty ?

Post by CRAZEDCOUNTRYREBEL »

Ive been lookin real hard at gettin a Buddy 125 over a Vino, got priced an 06 Buddy 125 -orange for $2499 w/front/rear rack, topcase, and a Prima W/S, just had a question bout the services on the Buddys. How many services (or at what intrevals) do you have to have a dealership check up for the warranty to stay valid (I can change the oil/gear oil myself). Its bout 3 hrs away from where I live, just dont want to have to make too many trips back for services.

The 300 mile service, according to the warranty, must be completed at the dealership. Other service intervals as follows (from Genuine):
After the first oil change, you can go 1,000-1,500 miles (I recommend 1,000) if you use regular oil. If you use synthetic, you can go 1,500-2,000 miles between oil changes (I recommend 1,500).

Inspect the valve clearance every 4,000 miles, adjust if necessary.
-The standard valve spacing is between 0.06 – 0.10mm with engine off.
-When the spacing is too small, idle speed will become unstable and you can burn up the valves.

-When the spacing is too large, loud noise will occur and the scooter will run poorly.
You can actually do the services (after the first) yourself provided you keep a record of having done them and having bought filters, etc.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Buddy. I did, in fact, do just that last night as a friend of my wife asked if I still liked my scooter. It's a great little bike at a fair price. Also sounds like that one is already equipped too, which is nice if you want that stuff.

I absolutely love mine and would recommend it to anyone looking for a scooter. As I understand and what my dealer told me; get the first service done by dealer at around 500 miles and (i think because i'll need to take mine in mostly)the rest can be up to you as long as you keep receipts. Ericalm seems to be the authority on this.
BTW...What's a Prima W/S?

Prima makes accessories for all kinds of scoots; they also make the hotly debated Buddy performance pipe. They have some very nice rear rack bags, etc. I think it's another "sister company" of Genuine/Scooterworks or that the owner has a stake in one or the other. Or something like that.

Oops, I misspoke there. The first service is at 500 miles, not 300. On the back of the warranty card, it states (the caps are theirs):
Vehicle MUST BE INSPECTED/SERVICED by an authorized Genuine dealer within 500 miles from date of purchase else the GENUINE LIMITED WARRANTY will be null and void.

Is there a mileage/distance limit from the dealer for the roadside service to apply?

I don't remember the mileage limit on the roadside assistance, but they'll pick you up anywhere - the location of the dealer doesn't come into play unless that is your intended destination. When you call roadside assistance they ask your current location and will choose a provider accordingly. They'll take you wherever you ask them, and as long as it's within the contracted mileage limit there is no charge.

I had them bring it to my house when I got a flat tire. No charge.

it's not a mileage limit, but a cost one. they will pay up to $150 worth of towing per incident. so how far that will go will depend on the towing company that happens to be in the area when you need them.
