PREACH ON, SISTAH!!! I'm a Rather Large woman, riding a bright pink scooter, wearing a blinky light on my back, and sporting a RED full-face helmet...and I think people see me less now than when I was on my bicycle! I'm just gonna chalk up all my "O, $h!t!!!" moments towards making me a better and more aware scooterist. Sheesh x a billion!

x-mojito50mod,

After visualizing how much she "cut the corner" I'd say she sliced the entire block off. That's incredible! I'm glad you weren't injured more than you were. Heal quickly!

and sporting a RED full-face helmet
Since we're on the subject of visibility and accident avoidance I was under the impression that red is not a high visibility color. A healthy portion of the driving population is color blind. One of the two most common colors people are blind to? Red. So to those folks, your red gear or red bike look...gray?

Generally speaking, light colors like white, yellow and silver stand out. Dark colors don't. But as I've said before and as others have said in this thread, you can't rely on lights and bright stuff to be visible. To some cagers out there you'll ALWAYS be invisible.

Just sitting there – that’s completely wrong.
Hope you heal up fast and well.
Bright side of it, if there is a bright side – you get a choice of new 07 colors for your new scoot!

I assume everyperson in a car is BLIND, STUPID, and DRUNK! The bigger the car the great the blindness, stupidity, and level of intoxication. This reminds me to be alert and I'm hoping it will keep me out of accidents.

If you ride in a city at all, add pedestrians to the same group and it will help.

And Genuine sure is making it even easier to do just that with the charger port on the 07's! But yeah, cell phones and cycles definately dont mix.

Dang, for real?! I've never heard that before, but I can't say it doesn't make sense. Sheesh. Well, good thing my summer helmet is bright pearlized white!

PRICELESS!!!

I pretty much assume the same things about everyone around me...especially the pedestrians and bicyclists! I was both a pedestrian and a bike-rider for years, and it's embarrassing to see the behaviors flouted by these groups 'round here. Sad, huh?

I have also noticed, through personal experience and observation, that the more EXPENSIVE the car, the more studid, blind, drunk and ARROGANT the driver. That arrogance seems to bring forth the "don't you know who I am?!?!?!?" gene and causes expectations that everyone else move for THEM.

When I lived in Atlanta, my 'favorite' drivers were the itsy-bitsy girls with three tone hair driving in these huge, expensive SUV that their husbands' bought them so that they would be "safe". And they don't know how to drive, they can't see because they are so high off the ground, the cars are usually empty and only get 8 mpg!!

I'm a girl. . .but those woman were just aweful drivers. I don't think I would have had the nerve to drive a scooter in Atlanta.

The folks in Oklahoma are not like that. Though I have notice that there are alot of Grandpa drives, folks going 10 in a 40 zone. Really.

L

PS Sorry to hear about the accident. That is just horrible. Hope you get better soon.

Thanks for all the kind words. It's good to have a support group.

Yeah, that whole drunk/stupid thing also goes for the area you drive in too...I work in Beverly Hills (on F'ing Rodeo Drive), and it just seems like the "driving code" here is "if I have a more expensive car, than I am entitled to drive like a bigger a**hole, at the expense of everyone else." It's much worse than other parts of LA.

Sorry about the accident. Get well soon. I think everyone should have to pass a comprehensive written driving test every ten years. Currently, the motorcycle section is just required for MC riders but I think it should be required for cagers too. I didn't realize that riders move to different parts of the lane for a good reason and I'll bet most people don't either. They probably think the rider is just goofing around. If everyone was required to retest to renew a license there might be fewer accidents of any kind.

Before i bought the buddy i read, maybe here to bargain for a helmet. I did and the dealer threw it in. I chose one that looks mostly like your white one poli. I did because...yes that's it "Jim, my BRC instructor said" :) ...all his helmets have always been white. Come to think of it there was a guy in our class who is colorblind who "Jim" asked a lot of questions of...about what he could and couldn't distinguish pn the course. I didn't put the two together, Jim said so I chose white instead of the cool orange with offset white double racing stripe.

And all the things et al eya said before goes for me 100x. You evidently can't be too safe.

I definitely know what you're talking about here. It's not all people driving BMW's and Benz's, but there's a percentage of these drivers who seem to have a sense of entitlement. Of course, it's not just the Bimmers and Benzs either, but S-class sedan drivers do seem to be among the most consistent offenders. I actually seem to see these folks most often when I'm in our car, not on the scoot, and I can typically spot them well in advance. All I can say is, give them a wide berth, especially if you're on two wheels.

Damn, sorry to hear about the crash. Another Buddy down, crap.
Hope you're better soon and that this doesn't turn into a legal nightmare. The last thing an injured rider should have to worry about is having to sue a negligent driver for compensation.

Sheesh.
