Resale value of a Buddy?

Post by golfingirl »

I love my Buddy 125 and have no plans on selling it. In fact, I'm looking at picking up a used Buddy 50 and want some advice on what to pay.

I know, I know, condition, miles etc, etc effect cost. I also believe in the philosophy that if something's worth it to you, it's worth it.

Looking for some general thoughts on what's a good deal for a Buddy 50 with less than 1000 miles, never dropped... good shape.

Thoughts?

No thoughts?

Would you pay $1300 for a used Buddy 50cc in good shape with less than 1000 miles on it?

What would you pay for a used Buddy 50?

Can't say that I have any idea. I only really know what I'd pay for a new Buddy 125.

For me, the Buddy 50 doesn't make sense. While there are plenty of roads around here with 35mph limits, nobody actually goes that speed, and some of them are pretty steep hills. Match that with requiring a motorcycle endorsement even at 49.5cc in Ohio and there's not much point from my viewing angle.

There are lots of 50cc scoots on the market, so somebody must be buying them, but they don't make sense to me in the area where I live.

If you're thinking of buying one, the really important thing is how much you are willing to spend. It's Econ 101 - what's it worth to you?

I'm with you on the 125 idea. I love my Buddy 125 and to me it is essential. It's a little hilly in ATL and the drivers here are CRAZY! I feel safer with more power.

We also have a Vino 50 that my husband rides when we cruise around together on the weekends.

We have the opportunity to purchase a Buddy 50 at what I would consider a good price.

Just wanted to see the market value of such an item.

Please post numbers if you don't mind doing it - I own a 50 and am seriously hooked on scooting, now I need a bigger one, so will likely be looking to sell mine. The 50 is great in town on the Front Range in Colorado and I want to go further so am considering the 125. I don't know if this is realistic or not but I would be hopeing to sell closer to 2000 for a 2006 (bought it over Thanksgiving 2006) with no drops and sub 1000 miles. Am I crazy? Cheers and good luck!

I haven't responded to this post because I don't think there's an answer yet. These scoots are too new to establish a used market value. Some scoots, like Vespas, hold their value well. Others don't.

If I were you I'd call my local scooter shop and ask them what they would sell this scooter for. Then subtract a bit for dealer markup and you probably have a reasonable starting point.

If I was buying it I'd definitely want to save a few hundred bucks over new. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense, no matter how good it looks or runs. I'm not sure about the numbers for a 50, but if I was selling my perfect little orange 125 with 730 miles on it, I'd ask for, oh, $2100. That'll save any buyer at least $600-$700 off the new OTD price. Hmm, now that I look at the numbers, maybe that's too low.

I didn't even think to check the Kelley Blue book. Great idea.

Well, I picked up a used Genuine Buddy 50cc in good shape with 850 miles on it for $1000. I think that's a good deal. Now we have 3 scooters!

One will be up for sale soon. Probably the Vino.

FWIW, the warranty appears to be non-transferable, and though these lil' guys seem to be pretty well-built lil' machines up to this point, I think the loss of said warranty would figure into the hit one would take on the sale...
Huh? What just happened?

resale

Post by andy »

I just saw on Craigslist-New York a 06 Buddy 125 with 1500 miles for sale at 2000. A new 06 cost me in January 2500. If you buy a used Buddy I've heard tht the warranty is not transferable. I'm not sure what a 50 would resell for but it seems that Buddy's are so reasonably priced for a good scooter why not go for the 125. Good luck :)

Here's a bargain I just spotted on craigslist too

Speaking of Buddy's on craigslist... I'm not sure if this one is still available, but it would be a bargain if it is.
