I got mine from shoes.com and paid I think $85. They are not the MiE ones however :/

If they weren't such a pain in the ass to put on, I'd wear them all the time. Anyone with a pair of Docs use those lace up zipper things to help ease the pain of putting them on/taking them off?

They're making them in england again? That's good to hear, I remember reading a few years ago that they'd shut down their last factory. Most of them are made in asia anyway, but up until then they had their top-of-the line original models made in the UK, and it looks like they're back. Cool.

Docs are indestructable. I had my last pair for 5 years. They had been tramped through the woods, they'd had an engine dropped on them(Yes my foot was inside, thank God for steel toes), and they just wouldn't wear out. I know a guy who has a pair thats 10 years old and still look nearly new.KABarash wrote:OK.... So let me ask, I'm typically on my feet from before sunrise till well after sunset, so comfortable boots are a necessary. As a land surveyor I'm out in the weather, mud, snow, brair and crap. Doc's look good will they handle that kind of abuse without self distructing ???
They're by far the most sturdy boot I've ever owned, before I started wearing Docs, I would go through a pair of boots every 3 months.

Mine don't have steel toe inserts in them.
And I agree, Docs, once broken in, are extremely comfy and will last you literally forever.
At least their boots will. Their shoes, not so much.

The normal Docs don't. I've got the industrial versions. They've got the original "bouncing soul" so they're more comfortable than the newer style sole they've been putting in the Chinese produced ones.KABarash wrote:STEEL toes?? Sweet! I have been looking for a pair of Doc Marten boots in stores and on line and the price was not quite right. at 35% off you cannot lose. I have a pair of oxfords and they still look new after 6 years. The upper and soles have shown no wear.
If you get the thick soled docs I think they will last forever. I wear them traveling b/c they are so easy on the feet. Problem is they are heavy as heck. For riding, those soles are going to be perfect.
Attractive? maybe not so much. Kind of a neo- industrial, bi- curious thing going on, but they are the bomb.
Thanks for sharing olhogrider!

i bought a pair 10 years ago. i've worn them more in the last 2 years than before but have held up well. the soles are now worn enough to warrent a new pair with thick soles still intact. my mate bought a pair made in china with the same looking rubber sole and his sole is more worn than mine after just 1 year. there's still plenty of life in both i just need the extra height.

I've happily purchased Docs from eBay. I got my first pair in high school from a retail store, and thus I know what size I need. The bonuses of buying used are 1) the leather is already broken in, and 2) I managed to snag two pairs of "vintage" made-in-the-UK steel toed boots (black and oxblood) a couple of years ago. I use arch supports to make them comfy enough for all-day wear.

Those are pretty sweet. I think I might get a pair of them or maybe the zipper kind.verdecalavera wrote:no need for the ones i got:alienmeatsack wrote:Anyone with a pair of Docs use those lace up zipper things to help ease the pain of putting them on/taking them off?
I have several pairs of boots, different pairs for different tasks. None of them are comfortable for riding. I have two pairs of these, that I bought ten years ago and another from 5 years ago. I use the new ones for surveying and the old ones for archaeological excavations.

Currently I wear various slip ons, and none of them have ankle protection like my Merrell Globe Trekers, it's the one piece of gear that I've slacked on.
