Newbie and obsessed with the Red '07 Buddy - How much OTD?
Hi Everyone. Last week I took a fish bowl, taped some scooter pictures to it and put all of my spare change in it along with 80% ($80) of my monthly allowance.
Today, the scooter jar now has about $200 in it!! Slowly getting closer...
Anyway, after reading this forum last night, I'm really craving the '07 Buddy. I just thought I'd introduce myself. I started a personal blog of my scooter jar progress and posted some picture's of the new Buddy that I found on this forum. I hope that's okay.
I want to add to my blog how much the '07 scooter is OTD? Let me know if you don't mind so I can post it to my blog. Thanks! Scott

Looks to me like you've got a dealer right in your city:
http://www.genuinescooters.com/dealers.html
Give them a call and ask them about their OTD cost and what's included.
OTD costs vary because of state and local fees etc. and dealer policies and what they include in OTD, it really doesn't do well to discuss the specifics here since what really matters is what dealer you can get to and how they treat you as a customer. I don't think the Genuine dealers have that big a difference in what they charge for the scooter itself. The MSRP is listed at http://www.genuinescooters.com/buddy.html
Good luck with your savings plan.

Got it. MSRP table shows:
$1,899 (50cc)
$2,599 (125cc)
$2,699 (125cc Italia)
So, which is the Italia specifically? Is that the green model? Or are all the '07's the Italia?
I have visited the Genuine dealer for my town (Fun on Wheels) and he does not have the '07s yet. But I'll give him a call today and see when they are coming in.
Thanks!

The Italia is a special addition that has cosmetic additions such as two tone green and whitewall tires and a little Italian flag on the emblem and i think thats about it. There are pictures of it if you search this forum and the web. Good luck on your savings!

The Buddy has the obvious 2 tone color scheme and white wall tires. Less obvious from the pictures, the floor mat and seat are a deep olive green color. The grips are also a gray color, which is reminiscent of scooters from several decades back. As you can also see the wheels are painted in the same color as the rest of the body. The differences between the Italia and the other '07 Buddy 125s are cosmetic, but if you like the look it's a bargain at only $100 more than the regular Buddy 125.

Lovin' your Scooter Jar blog! I added it to my LiveJournal feed list.
I too am a n00bie and am completely obsessed. I finally got a Buddy to call my own in January, and I've already put 420+ miles on her, snowfall be danged! I'm kinda/sorta sad I didn't wait for the '07 line-up, because I had my heart set on red. But it's nice to know that the '06 pink will now be collectible.

The Series Italia green two-tone is gorgeous, too, but not for me. Well, whatever Buddy you end up with, you'll be happy! The worst thing about 'em is their name....

A totally ballpark OTD price is $3,000 +/- $150. Again, I am sure exceptions are out there but figuring tax, title, reg, and possibly some freight in there it's a reasonable estimate to tack on $300-$500 on the MSRP price depending on location and circumstances.

Many of us have already peeled them off...it's a cinch! I peeled them off the first day I had her, and they came right off.rossini wrote:So funny. I couldn't agree more. I've only got 60 miles on mine so far but I am really tempted to peel off the "Buddy" decals. Just kind of a sissy name and the scooter is about as far from sissy as it gets!polianarchy wrote:he worst thing about 'em is their name....

I just picked my new 125 up today!
And I love it!
I paid just a hair under $3000 for it. My dealer was awesome--just sales tax and the title transfer fee-no ridiculous "dealer doc" nonsense or added charges!
I guess I should also introduce myself as I am brand new to the board and to scooters. I'm super excited and smiled the whole way home from the store! I'm looking forward to warm days and long rides, although mine is primarily for commuting.
Good luck with the jar!

The woman who took donations from strangers to get herself out of credit card debt she accumulated while living beyond her means in New York during her 20s makes me mad like few other things.
HOWEVER ... I would totally kick in a few bucks to help two eager scooterists get closer to their dream, and you don't even have to have a hard luck/rare disease story.
You should set up a system for people to donate via PayPal.

If you're up for a road trip, they've got one down here in Richmond, although I understand that it's sold and awaitng pickup, so you might have to act fast if you want to see it
OTD for a red '07 in this neck of the woods is $2779 IIRC, but that doesn't include various state fees like taxes & tags, so anyone who buys one in Richmond wins a *fabulous* trip to the DMV!
And I do mean fabulous

Holly just added $100 to our scooter jar tonight. That puts it up to ~$300 and change!
Thanks polianarchy for your encouragement on our jar. We're a pay-for-it-with-cash-couple, hence the jar and not a finance or credit card purchase.Lovin' your Scooter Jar blog! I added it to my LiveJournal feed list.
I was worried that my blog might appear like a bleg, which is why I resisted placing the donation link. Thanks for your moral support though!HOWEVER ... Awesome idea for a blog! The Buddy is the best bang for your buck scoot on the market; you won't regret your selection.
Definitely go for the 125cc, but it pays to shop around for insurance. Prices vary wildly according to a number of factors including location, age, gender, experience riding and a host of others the companies won't divulge or admit to. I got quotes that varied by hundreds of dollars for near-identical coverage.
Also, when calculating your costs keep in mind the gear you'll need: good helmets, riding jackets and gloves. These can add another $300 or so if you get good bargains but will likely run higher.
Good luck with accumulating the necessary funds. While you're saving up, consider taking the MSF course so you're ready to go when you hit the magic amount.

and it sounds like ya'll might have enough to take the course already. If you've not riden before it's the best, safest, most educational way to find out if you really want a scooter before spending the money. It's what i did.ericalm wrote: Good luck with accumulating the necessary funds. While you're saving up, consider taking the MSF course so you're ready to go when you hit the magic amount.
