How can cops tell I have a 125, if I park on the sidewalk? Can they?

How do I know I have a buddy 125, as opposed to the 50? Is there any way to distinguish?

If it goes over 40mph, doesn't leave a trail of blue-smoke, and only has one filler under the seat, then it's a 125.

You can lock the bars- turn them almost all the way to the left, the turn the key to the left. You may have to move the bars around a bit to find the sweet spot.

Don't expect perfection or internal consistency from the manual... it was probably translated from Tawainese to Japanese and then to English- all using an internet translator!

Sorry, I'm naturally paranoid. And I appreciate the help. Like I just told the dealer, I'm kinda paranoid about stuff I don't understand. And I don't understand this stuff yet; I'm double checking that I understand all the features of the scooter before I do anything else.

I'm at work and don't have a Buddy to look at, but does anyone know where the plate with the VIN number is on a Buddy? It may say "motorcycle" or have the engine displacement on it. And cops may be able to get that info if they run your license plate.

There's that "Buddy 125" badge on the side, too.

Ok, I found the gvwr on the buddy. Only problem is that it doesn't match the gvwr on the paperwork I got from the dealer. 398 punds is what the vin plate on the scooter says. But my paperwork says 560 pounds. What's going on here?

I called the company and he said that its normal for the 2 numbers not to be the same. Hmm. He said it's first time scooter jitters, and I guess I'll ride with him on this. But it's just like seeing wierd charges on your credit card, you want to understand.

You can also tell a 2-stroke from a 4-stroke just by looking at the exhaust. The 2T will be much smaller and probably have some strange bend in it, whereas the 4T will resemble an average motorcycle pipe.

I really hate the title of this series, but perhaps you might want to check out this book; esp as it's written by one of our own.

It was a combination of me being jittery about the 2 numbers(gvwr) not being the same on the vin plate and the paperwork I got from my dealer, and wondering where I can park this and not get a ticket. No worrries now, I think I'm sorted out.

I use to be paranoid about being allowed back on base, where I live, with the Buddy 50. I don't have to have a motorcycle license, I don't have to have tags, just a small registration sticker on the back fender, and because of all that, I am not allowed a base sticker.

I've educated the guys at three gates, and not been given lip at any of them, although two guys (two seperate occasions) did the panicky little double take, checking for tags on the back because they didn't read the "Buddy 50" on the front.

Now I'm getting lots of attention and smiles at the gates.

OH, but I can go over 40mph, but that's because I'm at 6,000ft above sea level. They remove the restrictors from the 50cc scooters because, at this altitude, they won't run with the restrictors on them. I still only top out at 45-48mph though, on a flat.

Basically, if a cop stops and asks, tell them what's up. If they give you a ticket, go to court and tell them the cop is full of poop. I don't park on the sidewalk though, I park in regular parking places, or, if I find one, motorcycle racks. Bicycles ont eh sidewalk are illegal in all the places I've ever lived, so I just have the habit of not doing it.
