Grand Opening of New Thousand Oaks Genuine Dealer 2/26-3/1

Post by ericalm »

Hey, SoCal Scooterists!

The new Genuine Dealer in Thousand Oaks is having a big opening celebration next week, Thursday-Sunday, but Saturday will be the big day.
Thousand Oaks Powersports currently carries Yamaha, Kawasaki and KTM. One of the owners is is the former CEO of Guitar Center. They're serious about scooters and very excited about carrying the Genuine line. Genuine's dealer rep will be on hand as well.

Hopefully we can have a ride up from LA/SFV. Anyone interested should let me know. It takes a while to get through the SFV, but then we could take the PCH and/or Mulholland Hwy.—great riding! (Forecast says rain on Saturday but hopefully that'll change.)

Group ride to new shop at Thousand Oaks Powersports

Post by atomicwegy »

I live in Oak Park and have been to there new shop. I think it's about 15,000 sqft with some really cool stuff and a great lounge to kick back and watch moto movies. All the people that work there think the new Buddy's are going to be trend setting for people who want a change from the sport bikes. If you want to meet some were in Calabasas like Corner Bakery and ride to the Rock store then to the Thousand Oaks Powersports I'm in.

I am currently trying to get the scooter club to come along. I was perhaps thinking of a ride afterwards. Perhaps through Hidden Valley into Newberry Park...

Here are the ride details for those in the LA/SFV area:

Meet Saturday at 10:30am.
Location: Laurel Canyon and Ventura in Studio City. Parking lot behind Kinko's, Mexicali, Gap, Banana Republic, Koo Koo Roo, etc., approximately 12175 Ventura Blvd, 91604. I'll be in the Northwest corner of the lot, behind Koo Koo Roo and back. Look for a light blue Vespa.

Tentative Route: http://is.gd/kVI0

We'll be stopping along the way at the Rock Store and will probably be getting lunch somewhere in Thousand Oaks.

atomicwegy, is there a good place for you to hook up with us along this route? Maybe meet at the Rock Store, then ride in from there?

I want to add that this is a challenging route with a lot of twistys and some difficult terrain. We had a rider crash near the Rock Store last time we were out this way. Having a group member carted off in an ambulance makes for an unpleasant day. This probably isn't the best first group ride for anyone not experienced riding in these conditions. For more info, check out the route map and have a look at the Meetup Group's group riding guidelines and tips. This isn't officially a Meetup, but we'll be following the basics.

Atomicwegy here. The best place for me to meet would be at Starbucks at Ventura Blvd and Topanga. Your group should be there around 10:45 to 11:00. The Starbucks/Rite Aid has a big parking area for everyone to meet.
The weather looks good and the route is really beautiful this time of year. If some of your riders are not sure about the twisty's I'll be glad to stay back and keep a smart pace. I hope everybody comes out because this is the best time of year to ride. Keep me posted. Atomicwegy Out.

Sounds great. I'm going to say closer to 11-11:15. Odds of departing right at 10:30 are pretty low. I'll PM you my cell # just in case.

One more caution alert from Colin aka Reverend: After the recent rains, there will probably be a lot of dirt and debris on the Mulholland Hwy. He's a very experienced rider and crashed due to sand in the road up there. We experienced similar conditions on our last ride. We'll take it easy when necessary and will allow riders to set their own pace.

I ride the roads in that area several times per week, usually by bicycle and rocks, sand and debris are there, mosly along the side. Hope to join you in Woodland Hills, along Mulholland or at the Rock Store.

Hey Eric,

For some reason I am not getting a route when I click the map link. Is there something wrong or is it a Safari thing or me or...?

Thanks.

Works for me in Safari 4b and Firefox. It takes a little while for the route to come up; it's the last things that loads. Maybe you didn't give it long enough?

The Google map posted here works. But when I click the earlier link in Safari 3.2.1, I get the whole of North America and it is asking about a number of different Ventura Blvds. all over the country. Then, even when I tell it the correct Ventura Blvd, it still wont give me a map. Weird. Never had problems before. Anyways, no worries. I know where to meet. I was just curious about the route.

See you tomorrow morning.

I think they sell them for $25 or so…? Adam aka nuttmeg75 bought one after our last outing up there. You can probably PM him for info.

We were there with Zac's Mom, Stepdad, and a couple guys from the club. We ended up leaving pretty early because Zac's dad was in the hospital, and ended up in needing to go into surgery. (He's okay! :D )

Tricia's Summary: Tasty kettle corn, BS for a while with Mike, shiny new bikes, Friendly Genuine Rep. (Tre?), Lunch at the expensive deli, JAM back out to Oxnard to see Pops.

What an awesome day for a ride, though! We were sorry we missed you guys. We'll post some pics as soon as we have 'em.
