Buddy 50 & 125 speeds with TWO people?
I'm going to be getting one new scooter for the gf and I to ride around the city together. I was curious, how fast would the buddy 50 cc go with us on it together and the buddy 125cc.
I weigh 170, she's 110 (280). I'm 5'9 and she's 5'1.

B125 speed w/ 2 people.
Hey Sam9459,
My wife and I bought a used Buddy 125 almost a year ago. It was only "used" a couple of months, basically the break-in period; bought it with 1500 miles on the OD. It had just been in for servicing (oil change, etc). We took it on a rally put on by a local scooter club (OKC Curiosity, which we joined), and rode about 100 miles, maybe more, with both of us on it. We were one of only two Buddy's on the ride, mostly Stella's, and some older Vespas, etc, AND one of only two scooters with 2-up, the other one was a Stella, I believe. Anyway, with both of us on it, going down a long hill, and both of us tucked low, we hit 70 on the speedo; I'm pretty sure I had the throttle wide-open, maybe just a little shy of wide, as I was new to 2-wheel riding on the streets, and wasn't sure how it would handle at higher speeds. I think the speedo is a little generous, but I would bet we were going at least 60, maybe 65. It had no problems holding 45-50 going up and down hills, and we still got 90 miles on our first gallon! I believe several of the other riders were very impressed with how it handled and was able to keep up with them. At least that's what I heard from various people during the day. We have since purchased a second used Buddy, and now both have one and LOVE them, riding any chance we get, even in fairly cold temps. I painted mine blue, you can see my post about repainting if you want to see a pic. I haven't added any performance parts, not sure if I'm going to, as it gets around nicely as is.
As far as sizes are concerned, I'm about 165-170, 6'3", and my wife is close to 200, 5'9". I had some concerns about performance versus weight-of-riders, and that was when we were looking at buying a Stella with a 150 cc engine. I can happily say I'm not a bit concerned about the performance with 2 people on it.
As a side note, when we first got it, and I still didn't have my license, my dad took me to the DMV to test. We were both on it (dad's roughly the same size as me, just a little shorter) and took it on the actual freeway!! He has been riding for several years, and was more comfortable with that. We had the throttle all the way open, and were maintaining 65 on the odometer, on a fairly level surface. Apparently the owner of our scooter shop saw us on the highway, and that trip has become part of local scooter lore. We rode back and forth a couple of times on the freeway, and I took it by myself once, but was a little uncomfortable, as all other vehicles were doing at least 70-plus, and zooming around me. I still traveled close to the posted speed limit with no probs, other than the wind coming off of larger trucks being a bit scary.
I hope this is helpful. I'm not sure if other riders have had similar experiences, but maybe some have, and got close to the same results. For the money, get the 125, you'll be glad you did. You may want to check for any used ones, with good service records; ours was $2200 used, versus $2700 new, and we didn't have to break it in. It may seem like a small engine, but let me tell you, the torque is apparent, and you can still beat cars at stop lights, with two people riding.

i have ridden twoup with a range of passengers, up to probably 370 or so pounds, with no issues keeping up with ridiculous phoenix traffic... the only time i have really had her wound out two up was carrying about 300, and had no problem holding 60+ indicated... not a spacious ride, but absolutely doable....
