Blackjack with windshield
Does anyone have a blackjack with windshield? I am thinking of getting the blackjack but I'm not unsure of the windshield because of blackjack's "theme". Just wondering how it looks with it.

I bought a windshield to try out and see what I thought (Genuine medium). It was on for all of 30 seconds and off it came. Weird but I had a really adverse reaction to it and it's never been back on since. This surprised me as it was not the reaction I was expecting at all. I didn't mind how it looked on my scooter so much as I hated being behind it. I know many others love them but I felt cramped and claustrophobic. Guess I just really (really) enjoy the wind in my face and having nothing but open road in front of me

Hmm, thats interesting, as I'm kinda the oposite. I really don't like the way my windshield looks, but I don't really like having wind directly in my face either. Thats also one (of many) reasons I wear a full face. Blowing around my arms and legs I love, in my face? Not so muchSkootz Kabootz wrote:I bought a windshield to try out and see what I thought (Genuine medium). It was on for all of 30 seconds and off it came. There is no accounting for taste. Personally, I like the looks of a windscreen on a scooter, and I think a small or medium sized one would look great on a Blackjack.
That being said, I didn't get mine for ascetic purposes (hell, my scoot is Sea Foam - so wrong its right). Rather, I got it to help me through the winter months, plus I'm sure it's good for a couple more mph. Now that it's warm, I'm taking it off till next winter. That, and while the air flow off the windscreen was just fine with my Scorpion helmet, with my new Shark the airflow is so deafening that I can barely hear my motor at 55 mph. Another thing to think about when considering a windscreen.
Edit: Oh boy, stepped in it here. I meant "aesthetic." Well, maybe not.

Re: Blackjackwith windshield
I have a medium windshield on mine. Unfortunately, I had an accident before I could get pictures, and now it is in the shop.
So, logic says DON'T GET A WINDSHIELD OR YOU WILL CRASH. Heh, just kidding. Seriously, taste is personal, but I like how it makes the scooter look. On the other hand, I have to get used to it while riding, since the height and angle of the windshield and my body puts the top of it in front of my neck. I keep imagining how I'd be decapitated, or have my windpipe crushed, in a head-on collision. But it does keep me warmer on cold mornings, so that's totally worth a gory painful horrifying death.

"Looks bad"?ScooterTrash wrote:Looks just as bad as every other scooter with a wind shield

Actually "looks" aren't what windshields are about...

If you travel on faster roads outside of cities, the addition of a streamlinging windshield will give you a few extra MPHs and a few extra MPGs too! (Because they handle the wind flow a lot better than your chunky body does!)
It's also a lot less tiring on long rides to not have your torso being pushed back in the seat by the wind all the time!
And if you ride on cooler days, the advantages of a windshield are fairly obvious...
So windshields give you more speed, better gas mileage, the ability to ride longer, farther, faster, are less tiring, and can extend your riding season longer into the colder months...
Too bad they "look bad", eh?

The OP asked how it would "look" on the blackjack, not how it would function so your point is moot.
You probably won't want my opinion on the way you scooter looks

The relative merits of windshields have been discussed many times in other threads.
Overall, I'm a fan of windshields. That said, I don't think one would look all that good on a Blackjack. Every time I see a Blackjack, I marvel at how different it looks than other Buddys, how the paint gives it a much more aggressive, sleek feel. I suspect any of the windshields available for the Buddy would ruin this, bringing it back into the realm of other Buddys.

She does look sorta prissy looking with that particular windscreen. Maybe the Genuine small screen (like on my creme '07) with a black border around it might improve things...

In the hot summer months I usually take the small screen off my Buddy just to enjoy the free'er air flow. And I switch from a mid-size screen on the Vesap GT to a flyscreen because that scoot really does handle (and look, IMO) quite a bit better with a flyscreen than without it...

not a fan of windscreens but i do understand why some people have them. just not for me.
i never thought about a windscreen on a blackjack. i think of the blackjack as the outlaw buddy. so it has no topcase or windscreen in my head.
i think the blackjack is also a very masculine scooter so calling it "her" or "she" is weird for me. its the dude.

i am one of the rare people that LIKE the look of a windscreen...Plus I think they are practical.
My old scooter didn't have one and when I got above 40 (all the roads here are 40+ speed limit) the wind would hit me right in the face and I'd be holding onto the handlebars just to stay ON the scooter.
When I bought the buddy I ordered the windscreen immediately and had them install it before I left my local scooter shop (Moxie Scooters). The only time I've ever ridden a buddy without the windscreen was on my testride before I bought it.
With it I still see over the top and the screen directs the wind away from my body so I am comfortable and safe while riding. For me, it's perfect...maybe not so for you, but that's my $0.02 regarding windscreens.

I'm not sure that photoshop does justice to how a windscreen would look. Possibly still ugly, but, not so opaque. A taller one would be less stubby looking. Like I said, I like the look of mine; but that pic is hideous to me.
My Ruckus was male to me-- called it The Dude a la The Big Lebowski-- but I'm thinking female for the Blackjack. My reasoning is embarrassingly sexist so I'll keep it to myself.

Not rare at all. I think it's a case of the haters being more vocal, like they have some kind of chip on their shoulder, some compelling reason to reiterate their anti-windscreen agenda over and over.Christy wrote:i am one of the rare people that LIKE the look of a windscreen...

Thanks everyone for their inputs. I had a short windshield on my orange 125, and I loved it. I am most definitely on the pro-windshield camp, but because of Blackjack's look, I am not sure it will be a good fit. I think eric's answer is exactly what I was looking for.ericalm wrote:The relative merits of windshields have been discussed many times in other threads.

I have a windscreen, the genuine one, small, and I like the look of it. I think the one in the picture might be a short screen for the 1st gen 2006 Buddy (which is what I have). or it could be a make up one, I don't have my Buddy for reference anymorebluebuddygirl wrote:I have a windscreen, the genuine one, small, and I like the look of it. It wasn’t meant to be exacting science – it was just a reference – this is what my screen looks like, an 06’.
Remember this is a tiny scooter; with humans ridding, proportions seem to change at least making the screen less obvious

Aesthetic preference aside, I'd be curious to know what the height of windsheild likers are vs windsheild dislikers. I think in my case, being 6'1", the cockpit area of the buddy just feels a little cramped with a windshield infront of me (as it is, I sit practically on the passenger section of my seat for legroom and comfort...). Maybe for smaller framed people the Buddy is more spacious and that factors into why they enjoy being behind a windscreen more? Just a curiosity...

Windshield height is really tricky as it varies by rider's size and personal preferences. Many of the ModernVespa members have gone through a couple different sizes before settling on what they like best. Those who are dissatisfied with stock sizes usually wind up cutting one down to suit them. Buddy dynamics are somewhat different that a Vespa's, though: Buddy is narrower and handles differently against wind; tall riders sit higher up over the headset on the Buddy than a Vespa. For the Bud, I think anything over 16" off the headlight could be problematic. Taller Buddy riders who don't like the wind redirected to their head may never find their optimum windshield height.Skootz Kabootz wrote:Aesthetic preference aside, I'd be curious to know what the height of windsheild likers are vs windsheild dislikers. Again, to reiterate, my windscreen may look large on the scooter without a person onboard, but in reality it is very small, the wind only deflects away from my breast and below; even though the screen is very small in size the stability it offers is significant. 5’10” 175 – 180, very average proportions![Image]()

I normally spend alot of time in the 50 to 60mph range and my windscreen makes the ride much more comfortable. I put one on in March when I got my Blackjack since it is still quite chilly here in Richmond. I took it off last week to get some pinstripes done, and what a difference. I put it back on as soon as possible.

Black jack wind screen
I recently got a small wind screen for my Black Jack. It has helped with the bug clean up (I find it easier to clean a wind screen than my full face helmet.) My girlfriend and I think it looks fitting on the scoot. Sorry I can't post photos at the moment.

I sell wine for a living and drive about 40K miles a year. Never thought that I would be looking for something with better MPG than a Mini, but it cannot compete with the Buddy.
'06 John Cooper Works - 22MPG average
'08 Clubman - 31MPG average
'09 Blackjack - 85MPG average
Just over 1000 miles thus far, and loving every minute of it!
