getting off the mountain without the interstate in WNC

Post by Cheshire »

Took some pictures of the road I go down to get from Black Mountain (east of Asheville) to Old Fort (bottom of the mountain to the east). It's the most direct way to get off the mountain without using the interstate without going out of my way. Bumpy as all get out, but pretty. I was pretty suprised Google Maps directed me down this road...Mapquest lists it as "Fire Road".
I have to wonder if whoever programmed/translated that part of the map wondered who named a road "Fire".

Beautiful! I love that part of the country. I spent two summers near there in Brevard (close to Asheville for those who aren't familiar) as part of the Music Festival. I would love to go back on my scooter. Lot's of great rides! And of course the Blue Ridge Parkway... 'nuff said.
