Koso Variator

Post by bgwss »

Anyone try this? I noticed it on buggy parts website and did not know if it was better than NYC, or Dr. Pulley variators.

I've not tried their variator, but Koso clutches are very nice, so the variator likely is too.

You see Koso variators used frequently in other scooter communities. I think it's more a matter of hype (and the lack thereof) that keeps Modern Buddy away from it.

That said, it should be an improvement over stock in terms of smoothness and acceleration.

Whether it's better than NCY or Dr. Pulley is totally subjective. Like most things with the CVT, it requires a bit of tinkering to really find the sweet spot. With the Dr. Pulley piece, there are countless cases here where people have found they perform well on the Buddy when combined weighs around the 11g range. For the super-light NCY variator, it seems heavier weights might be needed. For the Koso, you'd have to tinker. And what's more fun than tinkering?! :D

*bump* Anyone tried a Koso variator yet?

For those that are running Dr Pulley, any reason you picked that over a Koso or NCY? Inquiring minds, burning wallets, and all that.
