August Scavenger Hunt (Week 2) Sign of the times

Post by Orange Guy »

I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes. I saw the sign. Here we go ...

+2 For your scooter in picture
+2 For you in the picture

+15 with a business sign that has the word "buddy" on it. (something like this)

+10 for a digital marquee (like this) that reads "modernbuddy.com" on it.

+15 for a portable marquee (like this) that reads "modernbuddy.com" on it.

+25 for a fixed marquee (like this) that reads "modernbuddy.com" on it.

+30 bonus points for any of the above marquee options that have the phrase "Join ModernBuddy.com. Feel the love, it's genuine." on it.

+1 for first entry

This Hunt ends at MIDNIGHT, Sunday, August 16, 2009. New hunt will be posted Sunday morning.

-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (But if you get a better pic later in the week, PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.)
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-10 BONUS POINTS (good anytime all summer) for a photo of you getting a ticket (photo must include your scooter & a cop writing the ticket) only one of these may be submitted per player. (Thanks to kazoo for the suggestion)
(Edit – you don’t have to be REALLY getting a ticket… if you can get a cop to pose like he/she is writing you a ticket, that is good enough)
-No Photoshop submissions
I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.

Check the white pages for Buddy businesses. A quick check here shows Buddy's Lanes (bowling) and Buddy's Auto Repair.

Danggit, you're gonna make me scoot to Robertsdale, Alabama AGAIN?! I just googled "Buddy Pensacola" and the
closest place that actually has a sign that reads "Buddy" is in the middle of nowhere. I really get tired of going there.

I don't know anybody that works at a business with a marquee that I could get them to put something on it for me either. :(
I'll have to figure something out.

Week 2 rules

Yes, this week is quite a challenge. I don't ride my Buddy downtown in metropolitan areas, so I'll try to do the best I can, but low score likely this week. Cecijinetta

I'm on my way out now. Not too many choices in the Valley, but I'll find something. (A quick check here turned up a business named Buddy Butter. But I don't think I want to know what that is.)

You Go O-Guy, I found a place called Buddies; but it's been storming this week in Hillsboro, Oregon, so don't know if I'll make it there or not. I'll do the best I can, but no promises. Can I add 2 + 2? - maybe. :)

You'd think that in a town of 3 million plus, there would be loads of Buddy businesses. Well, that's what you'd get for thinking.

Buddy Painting - works out of his house.
Buddy Moon Variety Service - ditto.
Buddy Pool - bought by a chain.
Buddy Campbell & Associates - Campbell and Partners something.
Buddy Butter - never did find it.
Buddy Massage (I went there first) - closed.
Buddy's All Stars - thank goodness.

I looked up Buddy places and had similar luck...all were either at somebody's house or out of business. But it was funny today, we were driving to eat dinner and by total accident found a place called Buddy's Carpet that was out of business but the sign was still there! So now I just have to get back with my scooter! My luck they will tear down the sign by saturday...haha.

Great stories, Buddies.

I found one place only, Buddies Bar & Grill. I hope Buddies will work???? Maybe our 'judge' will be flexible on this. I'll think positive. I ride with two other Buddy owners, so we really are "Buddies" and we ride Buddy's. Just getting any picture on this week - should get lots of points. This was quite a hunt.

Oh My Gosh - What we do for this hunt......

Post by Cecijinetta »

I must tell you all, what I enjoy just as much as the pix - are the stories told, and I've got a doozie as I just got home from my 'outing' that I do not care to re-live.

I'm already 'out of my box' of comfort as I must ride through lots of traffic on main roads just to get to my photo-site. People are really looking at me!?? I arrive at the site, open up my underseat storage, place my keys next to my gas cap (as I always do), and I bumped my seat just enough so that the lid fell down and locked my keys inside! Oh Crap..... Thank goodness my cell phone was in the cubby-box up front. I called Vespa of Portland and they said it was next-to-impossible to open that seat when locked. They could only suggest trying screw drivers or calling my "Roadside Assistance" number, which I haven't received yet from Genuine Motors. It ended up taking 4 different sized screwdrivers to pry and 'fish' out my keychain, which of course stretched all out and broke, then my trunk key fell down into that little slit-space between the gas tank and metal around the tank - another fishing trip! Am I having fun yet?????

Now that I'm back home, all hyped up to have a HUGE score this week, I re-read the rules, I see that I "mis-understood" the 'portable sign' rule-heck, it's not a marquee. I spent a good bit of time making the sign, and taped it to my scooter, at least now I understand why so many people looked at me on the road.

4 points - Me in the pic with my scooter
15 A sign that says "Buddy" or "Buddies" (see above okay from OG)
My sign is more than just a sign, it's NEON,
but not digital or marquee
? ? - Portable sign, but not a marquee option. PEOPLE SAW IT!!!
AND...... Check out the Buddy shirt too!
---------
19 - WELL-and-HARD-EARNED POINTS!!! and I'm still smiling :)

Orange Guy, as a recovering bowler, I LOVE that sign. Back when Bowling Alleys became a bad term, Family Bowling Centers started getting built, primarily by AMC and Brunswick, thus squeezing the independents out. I HATE family bowling centers.

I hope Buddy's is still open. If it's not still open, I'll have a Schlitz in its memory

Cecijinetta, I feel your pain. I spent much of a week last year planning a Hunt pic, only to have the week's hunt rules pointed out to me after I posted. D'Oh!

Don't let it stop you The Hunt and Scooter Tag are the best!

Buddy's Town & Country Lanes is alive and kicking! That's where I learned to bowl as part of jr. high gym class.

Do any of you experienced (and great) photographers have an estimated timing that Week 3's rules are normally posted? August is my only experience. Thanks in advance for your reply.

We're a pretty casual bunch here, Cecijinetta, so other than probably sometime tomorrow, ah, no.
