2 new Buddys in the garage!

Post by Moo Juice »

OK, so it started with me surprising my wife with a new Cream Buddy 125 for her birthday. That was about 6 weeks ago. She was thrilled and now rides it to work and around town.

More and more I started asking if I could "help her get through the break-in period" on the Buddy and I would run it around the neighborhood. Last Saturday we were in the local Genuine dealer (EcoMoto in SLC) and she says to me "You should get one of these too, and we can scoot around town together". Black or Red? I thought. The black one called me and that was it!

The sales guy let me ride his Series Italia, on which he had installed the Prima pipe. He thought I would like it. He was right. So I had the dealer install the Prima on my new scoot while I was there. Interesting note about the warranty controversy: the owner of EcoMoto called Scooterworks and said "What gives with the warranty voiding on your (Genuine) scooter, your (Genuine) warranty, and your (Scooterworks) pipe?". According to the dealer, they decided that if the Prima was installed by a Genuine dealer, the warranty would be honored. That's the info I'm running on.

Back to the Buddys. We went for a long ride last Saturday, along some canyon roads. Such a blast. Details: helmets - of course, jackets - Corazzos are great!, MSF - me yes, her in June.

So in the end, the birthday present she really wanted was for us to scoot around together. Aw shucks. This is a great forum and my former role as lurker has been retired. Looking forward to a few mods and more tales.

Cheers!

Quick Response: BOO-yah!

Long Response: Wow, I'm jealous. My wife liked my Metro, rode it a few times, and each time commented on how fun it is. But she thinks it is too risky for her; she doesn't feel like she's coordinated enough to ride safely. :(

Anyhow, I'm happy as hell for you. My wife and I ride together on my FJR all the time, and it is damn sure some quality time. I don't have to tell her when I'm going to be home if she's with me! We did a 2700 mile road trip on it a couple years ago, which really rocked.

I'll comfort myself by telling myself that riding two Buddies consumes the same amount of fuel as both of us on the one FJR. 8)

Are you guys going to take some simultaneous vacation and go on a kickass scooter road trip?

Man you are lucky, I can't get my wife on a scooter. She has no interest. I even offered to buy her anyone she wanted.

I can barely get mine on a bicycle, let alone something faster :(

I may have missed it, but has anyone posted a video/soundclip of the stock vs prima pipe? I read that it sounds lower/better but that seems like little payoff for $200, since there's no difference in performance.

My wife isn't interested in scootering either. There are times when I wish she was, but on the other hand, it is nice to get away and do things on your own every once in a while.

I was thrilled that my wife wants to scoot around, and is willing to ride to work when she doesn't need her car. She grew up with brothers who had dirt bikes, so maybe that helped.

I'll see if I can post some quick sound or vid clips this week on stock vs. Prima. It is definitely more of a growl. I know the jury is out on any performance gain, but when my wife and I traded scoots for a while she made a comment about it having more low-end power. She noted that it seemed to get up to speed a bit quicker. Maybe our brains are expecting it to be faster because it is louder. :P

Until mine has a few hundred miles on it, I won't consider it broken in. Perhaps by then I can draw some conclusions. It was a pricey option, but it sounds sweet and looks really good against the black.

As it happens, I, the wife, was the one who wanted the scooter. After he kept pulling the same scam as the OP, we got a second are are both addicts. I had to drag him kicking and screaming off the thing in January. We love riding together. After 12 years of marrage we thought we would not discover a new pastime. We have saved a bundle in gas, insurance and parking...and to be such a blast to boot?? crazy

I agree

Those that ride together stay together!!!

I’m not saying you need to ride together to stay together but it sure helps especially when your married to the same person for a long time as we have – it’s like a new spark.

I feel the same way!! -- well, about my wife, not about your girlfriend. :P

In so many ways, I'm happy that she's not terribly interested in my hobbies. However, she's interested enough that she'll happily go to rallys or VW shows with me. :D

Best of both worlds, IMO. 8)

Some ride, most don't. Gender doesn't really matter, it's all about desire, comfort level and skill. If you don't have a burning desire to ride, don't. If you do have the desire but find that you don't have the skill, you have a couple of options. If your comfort level is workable, you can practice your skills in a variety of ways. But, if you're not comfortable on a bike and you're second guessing your skills, you're also a distracted rider.

Riding is not for everyone. If your loved one(s) loves to ride, enjoy the company! If they have no interest, they're far better off in a car and you're better off riding alone.

I am quite fond of retelling the story of how, when I brought my scoot home, my wife was so anti-scooter that she refused to even look at it. Less than a year later she had her Buddy. She had no experience riding anything and yet has picked it up pretty damn fast. We made our first canyon/pass crossing last weekend, which opens up all kinds of scootering trips in the future.

My one complaint: people think we're cute when we ride together. We are not cute-natured people. I can't help it if she likes pink.

Thanks for all of the forum welcomes BTW.

I probably have the best of both worlds when it comes to scootering with my wife. It gives us something to do together and we don't spend as much time together as we would like. But we also have a solid "I'm going out with my friends" philosophy, which encompasses solo rides on my Buddy when I want to get away. She would never be offended if I said I was going to ride by myself. I consider myself lucky!

Plus I rearranged my garage the other night for optimal Buddy access and it is really cool having two of them :D

We are planning a Memorial Day ride around Salt Lake City and maybe up Emigration Canyon, if anyone is familiar with the area. If we take any pics, I'll post!

Congrats! We are just down in Provo. My wife loves our Buddy, and if we werent poor college students we would have bought a second one for her days after we bought our Black 07. I still sit there trying to figure out how we could swing it somethimes. We drive our car so little now i am so tempted to get rid of it and get another Buddy. But alas, we have to drive to California or Canada every now and then, plus the few un- rideable winter months.
Maybe we can get together for a ride sometime.
Welcome!

That would be some rough going in the winters here on a Buddy. Maybe we can find some fat, knobby tires and go year-round!

We have some relatives down in Cedar Hill and were trying to figure out how to hop over the mountain from Sandy. Traverse Ridge maybe? The Buddies might struggle a bit getting up there, but it would be a fun ride.

I'm trying to dial into some local scooter get-togethers but haven't found much. If we can swing it, it would be fun to get together sometime.
