OT: LEAVE THE FREAKIN WHALES ALONE!!!

Post by Tbone »

For those of you not aware, since I'm sure it's just a minor story though treated as THE BIGGEST news story of the century round here:

Two humpback whales, one believed to be the mother and a smaller/younger one believed to be the calf worked their way up from the San Francisco bay to the lovely Port of Sacramento (70 miles away) which just so happens to approximately be 1 mile from my house in West Sacramento. That mile is not blocked by developments/buildings or anything since it is protected wildlife. A very enjoyable view! Both whales are injured slightly, disoriented and hungry since their fasting season is over and our local little pond doesn't have the Krill/Shrimp they eat. To the A@$holes that injured them and didn't report it to the authorities for fear of the animal righters or federal fines and loss of boat license...I hope your boat suffered damages!

Last night after a lovely dinner out with the wife I decided to take the long way home past the Port just to see what kind of circus the whales were really creating. And...I'll admit I was hoping to catch a glimpse.

To all the people driving in my little city:
Traffic laws still apply! Please DO NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD in the left hand lane of a 2 lane one way road to TURN RIGHT!!!

To the West Sacramento PD officers, thank you for attempting to direct traffic so people do not drive stupid and crazy. Obviously didn't work to well since I almost slammed into the idiot who stopped dead in the left lane of a two lane one way road to turn right into a "parking area" To the ticketing officers, thank you!!! The city definitely needs the revenue! There's a pothole... Oh one of the funniest sites I saw last night though I was too busy dricing and attempting to not hit people/cars to take a photo of it. An officer was shaking his head, laughing while administering a ticket to a parked car...directly in front of the sign posted "No parking at ANY time" [smilie=fun_84.gif]

I nearly cried out of joy of American Entrepreneurship/capitolism at it's best! THE definition of striking while the iron is hot:
To the Taco truck vendor I applaud you and want to thank you for reminding me why I love America so much! I hope you can go on vacation after yesterday's profits!

Since I'm usually up anyways this is for my wife and the rest of my neighborhood who are normally not conscious in the 6am hour:

To the Helicopters that were circling our neighborhood and ESPECIALLY to the one that literally stayed over our neighborhood to get the best shot. I extend on behalf of the Lindenwood community the largest middle finger and F.U. I possibly can!!!

To the newsrooms that didn't use a SINGLE FRAME OF FILM from the aerial helicopters this morning...the finger and F.U. is also extended!

That sucks, but I guess it's expected that traffic would be crazy around there. The coast guard is using sound now to lure them out. I hope they make it safely back to sea... :(

My wife and I named them Dorey and Nemo ;)

I could have chosen to go a different route last night. Wanted to see the circus first hand.

The helicopters though really did piss me off. Again, since I decided to flip through the local news this am before leaving for work. Every update on every channel used reporters on the ground and ZERO aerial shots!!! WHY DID THEY KEEP CIRCLING AND ESPECIALLY THE ONE THAT JUST STAYED OVER OUR NEIGHBORHOOD?!

Sorry for the inconvenience or that you're not seeing the footage you want, but I'm sure they're not all news choppers, and the news choppers are providing crucial information, such as where the whales are located. Having helicopters in the air helps plan/monitor efforts to get them out, especially since it is so easy to lose them in the murky waters.

There are helicopter shots online. If not seeing the shots is your biggest complaint, just do a search.

You live in one of the most unique areas in the world. share it and let the rest of us amaze at its finery. it's fragile and that minute piece of protected area needs a buffer itself, that would be you. take care of it.

pardon me if i've been rude but i bet you're living there for the very reason that brings people and other animals near, the never ending possibilities.

Be grateful...now let's see if i press submit or...

Again it was a failed attempt at writing satire (Not one of my strong points. I'm a sarcastic twit. Not intelligent enough for satire. Sigh...)

On a follow up the whales basically on their own decided to head back down the channel. Hundreds if not thousands of people came and went to see them. A couple of great photo ops were taken. Especially when one of them leaped out of the water!

I didn't catch the morning news for the follow up and have been reading various boards so I haven't checked the news sites yet for follow up stories.

Did watch a bit of the night news and in another form of humor for me at least-because the police were busy directing traffic and all they failed to pay attention to crime and other things. There was seriously around 15 minutes of news dedicated to our little city last night. 5 minutes or so on the whales and the rest on 2 other stories. Overall it was interesting.

hey tbone, my satire is almost always mistaken for bizar fact, especially when the listner doesn't know me...and i'm full of it. I'm sorry for my tiraid and i'm a hot head about delicate lands that get used up. I bet your neighborhood takes great care of and pride in its land. :)

Urban sprawl sucks, except the land that my home was developed on!

And I'm sure many others feel the same way I do until it's THEIR home! Believe me I lament when CA farmland is turned into track housing. Were it not for that same thing I lament though, we wouldn't have been able to get a home when we did. For those NOT in CA (Due to our overpriced overpopulated state), being able to somehow finance a home is an AMAZING accomplishment!

My wife and I LOVE the fact that we have protected wetlands separating our housing development and the Port! As much as the city is developing our little area (Known as South Port. Get it South of the Port) that protected wetlands thing is AWESOME!!! We love watching all the different birds that migrate in and out of the area. Can be somewhat annoying on a weekend to be woken up too early by hundreds of birds from a variety of species chirping away...but then again that's kind of cool too!

Don't worry. Many people take things the wrong way here on the internet. I wasn't overly offended or anything. And yes our Homeowners Association does keep the development nice.

*Another note about the whales. Apparently they keep swimming in circles. Headed back towards the port, then back towards the bay.

Yeah, I often feel the same way. :D A few years ago, those who know me pointed out how my writing made me sound completely different (angry/aggressive) than the person they knew me to be. Writing is hard because it lacks tone of voice and facial expressions and all those cues that help us know the difference between when someone is serious or sarcastic. Since then, I have become a firm believer in trying to provide clues, stating "(sarcasm)," using emoticons, and going back and making a concerted effort to see how my words might come across to those who don't know me. It sucks because it's soooo easy to come across wrong.

I thought you might be writing satirically but I wasn't sure... so I went with a "safe" response in the event that you really were ticked off. Sorry I didn't have more insight. :D
