waiting on parts since july 13
Does anyone have contact info for genuine? My 150 buddy was wrecked the first week of July and the dealership says they are still waiting on parts. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

Sorry to hear about this and unfortunately it's not the first such story.
The bottom line is your best bet is to keep bugging your dealer. Consider it their responsibility/issue to get you fixed and therefore their responsibility to get the parts from Genuine. Genuine is not set up to field individual requests from owners.
When your dealer shrugs and tells you there's nothing they can do, tell them to call Genuine again. Think of it like a car dealership- you wouldn't call VW to get parts for your Passat. You'd just ask the dealer why they don't have them.
If you want to go it on your own you could try here as well:
http://www.scooterloungeonline.com/scooterparts
They seem to have lots of parts readily available.

What parts are you waiting on?
I think it's reasonable to ask the dealer why it's taking so long and to expect a concrete answer. (Doesn't mean you'll be happy with it, but…)
At this point, you could also ask them about pursuing other avenues of obtaining the parts.
If it's simply a matter of it being a part that's not available to anyone anywhere, well, you may be out of luck.
You could also try to obtain it via Scooterworks or Scooterwest.com (Motorsport Scooters). Best to call and ask about availability. Scooterworks retail—the online sales to customers—is separate from Scooterworks Direct, their parts biz.

No excuses. If Genuine can not deliver parts to their dealers in a timely fashion then they suck as a company and don't deserve your continued patronage. It's that simple. I have my scooter in for service right now because it won't run. It's practically new with only 270 miles on it and it has taken a crapper already. If it isn't fixed within a reasonable time, and without major expense, I will never buy another Genuine scooter and will make sure that anyone who asks me about them gets directed away from them.

Re: waiting on parts since july 13
If I owned the dealership, I would call around to others dealers asking them if they have such parts. It's possible that it is a part not in stock elsewhere and that they truely are backordered. However, I think that as far back as July is absurd.ldrape wrote:Does anyone have contact info for genuine? I would get all the details in writing. If they can ship entire brand new operational scoots from Asia then something is wrong here. Get all the details: part name, model or sku#, etc. Call around to other dealers if scooterworks can't fill the order.
If it turns out the part is not backordered, I'd suggest speaking with your States Consumer Affairs Office and maybe an attorney if that makes sense.

Common parts genuine has stocked. Major parts usually rare and not very commonly purchased are shipped all the way from Taiwan.rsrider wrote:No excuses. Why won't it run? If it's do to anything other than some fault of yours, you won't have to worry about expense. The warranty is pretty solid and we've yet to hear of a valid claim being denied.rsrider wrote:No excuses. Unfortunately, "reasonable time" usually depends on the dealer's ability to properly diagnose the cause of the issue. I'm not questioning their competence, just saying that some symptoms can have more than one possible cause. The diagnosis can be tough and time-consuming depending on the issue.

Yes, its frustrating to have your scooter in the shop when you want to be out riding. On the other hand - after you are through swearing off on Genuine scooters forever and getting everyone you know to do the same, what is the other scooter company you are all going to flock to? You may want to read up a bit on parts availability problems for Vespas and other Piaggio scoots in the US. Unfortunately parts availability is a fairly widespread problem in the scooter biz and is at its worst during the summer months. Sometimes some patience and some ingenuity are required. What part(s) does you scooter need?rsrider wrote:No excuses. Just out of curiosity, what parts were you waiting for?

As in NEXT WEEK ?!?!?! you are totally getting shafted. that sucks. You wait for EVER with their EXCUSE being poor service from Genuine. Then, when they finally admit to having the parts they put you off to NEXT WEEK? You're shitting me right? I can't freaking believe that. What gives? What are you not telling us? Have you totally pissed them off or what? I can't believe that. I completely understand why you're upset and I don't blame you. That blows.ldrape wrote:Called the dealership again today they told me they now have the parts in and its on the list for tuesday to put back together. Hopefully have our buddy back next week. I will never deal with this dealership again. We waited two months for them to get our scooter in when we bought it and it took them two more weeks to prep it. They never return phone calls left on the service department voicemail. At the time it was the only dealership in Columbus Ohio I now see there is another will deal with them from now on. I have never done anything to anger them and have always been nice during phone calls (thats the reason I call them and not my wife!). I believe they were waiting on the headlight assembly not sure he could not even tell me. Everything was covered by insurance and there are no storage fees being charged so I really can't understand anymore delay. I will let everyone know if we actually get it back next week.

Dealership called Tuesday and said they found more damage and had to order more parts. They have had the scooter since July 13 and just now found more damage!!! Now I have to wait for the parts again and they have to contact the insurance with price of the parts. I have called the dealership 5 times since I got this message and no answer in the service department. Completely fed up with this dealership. On the plus side insurance company has been great in handling everything and I already have the check for the first estimate in hand.

The headlight assembly has been a difficult one for crash repairs during the summer season. Unfortunately it is commonly damaged and the frequency of scooters crashed during the peak of the riding season seems to overcome availability of replacement parts. For all that, it sounds like you are working with a dealer that is doing you no favors in getting this repaired in a timely way.ldrape wrote: I believe they were waiting on the headlight assembly not sure he could not even tell me. Did you call Scooterworks or Scooterwest as was suggested by Eric. Scooterwest (AKA Motorsports) is my dealer and that light assembly is something they keep in stock since it is almost always damaged on impact.
The only part on my scoot that took a couple of weeks was the top cover in Blue. I don't know why that took so much longer to get in but so-be-it. Even then I think it was like 10days not several months.
Not seeing all the damage until now is just unacceptable and I would definitely get on the horn to Genuine to give them some feedback on said dealer. And in the meantime - you should have a loaner scoot - but I bet the season's almost up out that way, huh?

I had a problem getting this one part too. It's finally come in, after waiting over five months. Since the part I needed was just cosmetic, I had them order it and continued riding without it.Dooglas wrote:The headlight assembly has been a difficult one for crash repairs during the summer season. ldrape, it does sound like the dealer is making the problem way worse. Just discovering a problem now is pretty unacceptable.

I have the same problem with parts for my buddy. Still waiting 6 months for a new piston and cylinder kit plus top end and crank. Dealer has had it on order for a while so no fault of theirs. So until I get my buddy fixed I have been riding my friends Vespa LX150 and I am liking it..
