Motul Oil

Post by Howardr »

So I was at the Tucson-Nogales rally this weekend and they were trying to sell me some Motul oil at $16 a quart! Is it really worth it. When I bought my Stella, I had an experienced vintage scooterist tell me that Stellas were designed to ride in India. Therefor, they will run fine on regular unleaded and the cheapest oil you can find. Kind of made sense.

Opinions? I kind of figured, if I'm not racing, I probably don't need Motul.

yes it will run on just about any oil you throw in it

but
things will last longer with a quailty full synth oil and it wont smoke as much

i would never run racing oil in a street riden machine even with the amount or wot throttle riding i do i still run ipone 11 bucks a bottle

i run it in both my stella and my zuma at 8000 miles on my zuma i did a bbk the only reason i did it is i wanted more the compression on the old cyl was still 120 psi

I run Motul "scooter expert" technosynthese in the P200, mainly because that's what the previous owner had
always used and I heard it was the best. It's also $11 at the local motorsports place and I don't have to order it. :D

It doesn't say anywhere that it's made for racing... :?:

I've been using Motul 710 in my 2005 Stella since it was brand-new, and there have been no problems. Since my local dealer doesn't carry Motul any longer, I have to order it on-line. I don't recall that it was as much as $16 per quart or litre; that sounds like a bit of profiteering. I figured I started with Motul and everything seems to run okay, so I'll stay with Motul.

I've run regular 2t for the past several hundred miles and I'm not happy with it. It smokes a lot more than motul 710 and it doesn't smell as nice. I'm going to use Royal purple full synth next, found it for 9 bucks a quart on amazon compared to 15 for the motul.

Spectro 2 cycle was recommended for my 2008 Stella and I have a quart. Its not syn but will probably change to it after my supply of regular dino is down. Thought about trying Lucas synthetic 2t as its available and not priced so high. I might try some of it.

Now that I've used a little bit of the "cheap stuff" I'm seeing what you mean. Stella definitely smokes a bit more and smells a bit worse. I'll be looking to upgrade.

Thanks for the input

I use Motul 800 in my heavily ported, modified, kitted 67 GT. In my stock 2T scooters I use whatever I win at rallies, usually Royal Purple. If I need to buy some, heaven forbid!..I really like Klotz.

Personally...I LOVE two stroke smoke!

So, 140 miles in and the bubble finally showed up in my sight-glass. I ran by my local autozone, which I was in yesterday for other parts, because I had seen lots of Lucas and Royal Purple products there before. But, they had no 2t specific stuff from any of the high end or synthetic companies. I ended up with multipurpose Valvoline 2T stuff. I put a little in and it is really dark stuff.
I only put in a few ounces and only drove a 3-4 miles to get home.

So, should drain this stuff or run it through?
