yesterday at the work shop my scoot was the demo so I was shamed for having half the amount of oil the scoot requires and letting it sit in the sun day in and day out making all the black plastic look old.
It's raining so I covered my scoot today at the office thinking "wet is wet, why bother" but then I remember the tsk tsk tsk I got the day before so I covered it. I just got a phonecall from the security office saying they just saw the wind pick up my scoot and drop it on it's side. The cover acted like a parachute in just the exact wrong way UNBELIEVABLE who'd think 40mph would be enough to do that.
It landed on the leftside with it locked. the mirror was lose but not broken, the brake was scratched but not broken. How can I tell if my alignment is screwed? I need to ride it home in the dark, in the rain AND in this crazy ass wind. Oh I can't believe i'm gonna say this but man I wish I had a car!
Don't be so hard on yourself. Obviously the oil thing can be serious, especially since you don't have a car, you don't want to lose your engine on the scoot, but as far as letting it sit in the sun, and so on, well it is YOUR scoot, and you can treat it how you want.
I have been giving myself a hard time because I haven't winterized my motorcycle yet, even though I haven't ridden it in a while, and I have been a total cold weather wuss this year, after riding well into a very cold November last year. My classes start earlier and I just can't get myself to want to ride in pitch black in the cold in the morning, so I have been driving my truck. What's done is done. Snow on the ground this morning. Guess I had better get that Seafoam in the tank of the cycle and the scooter now.
Sorry about your scoot. I can't imagine the wind getting under the cover and making it fall over... I'd think they're too heavy for that to happen.
I'm here in Redondo Beach, and the winds are 24 mph. The palm trees are blowing sideways... Hope you're bike is o.k., and how could you ride in this wind? Be careful!!
That sucks. Sorry to hear!
As far as alignment, I would think it would take more than blowing over to screw that up. Way back in march, my first and only wreck had my scooter sliding about 20 feet on its right side. The only damage was scratched stuff: alignment was untouched. I'd wager that was a harder impact than what your scooter suffered, so I'm guessing your alignment is fine.
we were getting gusts up to 60mph. Lots of debris in the streets. My car doesn't work and well, I do, so I didn't have any choices. I checked the weather and it said "light rain" and in the afternoon a high wind alert up to 40mph on the coast. I thought the wind would push the rain out. It was crazy so I left work once my scooter started -- it didn't start right away, I don't know how long it was on its side, the kid who righted it said he say it happen and when I got out to it sure enough, the cover was billowed up again and starting to lift the scoot off the ground. The cover gets stuck under the cowl protectors. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it.
When I got to work, it was only raining - not windy and here are no windows so I didn't see the wind picked up.
I came home early because I didn't want to wait for it to be dark, raining, windy and rush hour. It was SOOOOOO windy it was a terrifying ride and there was lots of standing water and debris in the road. Yucky. The worst day to scoot in the 10months I've been scooting.
I seem to recall someone scooting through a tornado or hurricane or something like that a few years ago. I've been through my fair share of nasty weather and I can tell you that nope, I don't like it one bit.
Unfortunately my scoot has been blown over twice by the wind with a cover on it. Both times breaking the left brake lever and scratched up the side and knocked the right mirror askew. So anything above 20 I pull the cover off. Which in Kansas happens a lot.

I guess I'm lucky nothing broke. I don't think I'll cover my scooter again. Armorall will give new life to the plastic. I think I'd worry 24/7 the wind has picked up if the cover was on it!
Glad to hear your scooter is OK Jen. Many scooter covers have vents built in to them to let air flow through them and moisture escape. Does your cover have any venting? If not , you might want to cut some breather holes in it to relieve the air pressure that is building up and knocking your scooter over.
