the search feature is a beeeoootiful thing:
viewtopic.php?t=733&highlight=insurance
keep in mind that there are just way too many factors to do an apple to apple comparison: things like location, age, credit score, past driving history, type of coverage you need based on things like do you own a home, blahblahblah.

Insurance for the Buddy 125
I live in St. Louis and American Family quoted $99/yr without medical. I am over 40 and a new rider. I couldn't believe my insurance was so inexpensive for a 2007 Series Italia. Good luck.

after a frustrating conversation with my insurance agent (who is about 8 billion years old) in which he a) tried to tell me to get a motorcycle instead and then b) said I should just get a cheap car with the money (uhh I already have a Jetta), I called the fine folks at Fernet (www.fernet.com)
I spoke to Pat, I think? They actually knew what a scooter was, and had a basic understanding of some of the makes/models. They found an insurance policy that was cheaper than the one Allstate was going to give me even WITH my "you have all of your other insurance policies here" discount.
But mostly it was just nice to talk to someone who actually understood what a scooter was and why you'd want to buy one.
So I'd suggest you call whomever your car insurance is with, and then call Fernet if you're not getting anywhere.

Allstate Nor Cal doesn't actually do their own motorcycle insurance. They farm it out. Even though every other kind of insurance is done through them right now, with "the best coverage" at a $200 deductible I was qouted $575 annual for the buddy. My Allstate guy even went so far as to compare contrast the $500 deduct vs the $200. He decided the difference between the two are so marginal that infact the $200 is better.
*He also said that Nor Cal Allstate will be repicking up Motorcycle Insurance around October or so.
I thought this was kind of high, again reading on here and modern vespa about the insurance topic.
I asked co-workers here who motorcycle in. They all use a guy. I got his info. Called. For literally the same coverage, same deductible and all...I even asked him to do the same compare/contrast with the $500 deduct vs. $200. Same coverage was around $250-275 or so.
In CA the M classification does help lower rates but there's also a weird if you've driven a moto for over 3 years rates lower again. If you're a noob like me rates are higher.
If anyone in the Sacramento area wants this guys info, or in general. I'll have to get it from home but I can forward you his info at a later time.

Agreed. Plus there too many other variables to make a comparison of rates meaningful: limits on liability coverage ($20,000 versus $300,000), deductibles on comprehensive and collision coverage (none, $100, $250, $500, or $1000), whether medical payments coverage is included and in what amount, and whether uninsured motorist coverage (expensive for motorcycles and scooters because your chances of being injured by an un- or underinsured motorist are greater than in a car) is included and in what amount. The coverages have to be the same before you can make an apples-to-apples comparison of the costs of two policies.sunshinen wrote:Insurance varies greatly depending on where you ride, so insurance discussions are pretty worthless unless you state the area where you are located.
