Buddy In The Rain

Post by BosBuddy »

Anyone know how bad it is if your Buddy gets caught in the rain for a few days?

My Buddy lives inside but I've ridden in some pretty serious rain storms with no problems. Generally speaking, riding in the rain is harder on a bike than just sitting there.

One thing to remember though is that the under seat storage isn't waterproof.

Really? Why is riding in the rain harder on it then sitting in the rain?

Invest in a good cover, don't keep anything in it that can't get wet, and you should be fine.

I don't have scientific evidence to prove this but it's based on some experience. A bike or scoot sitting in the rain will typically start right up, it's really just getting a shower. If you're riding in the rain, you have the rainfall from above, the splash back from your own wheels and the splash back from other vehicles to worry about. So you're riding through the rain plus the mist and dirt thrown up from the road. I've had bikes with slightly forward facing controls (depends on the handlebar shape and placement) that get all kinds of goop and gunk in the electricals because of this.

This should go without saying, but when you're riding in the rain, try to give yourself plenty of room between you and the car in front of you. It saves abuse on your bike and also saves on cleaning bills for your clothes.

Ride in the tire tracks of the cars in front of you. Let them dry the road for you.

I rode to work Friday morning in a thunderstorm and the tracks of the cars ahead of me didn't last long enough for me to ride in them! Give everyone extra room, even if the morons in pickup trucks give you the same courtesy.
