How to increase speed on Metro 50 (buddy 50)

Post by Bobgigger »

Good day to all
My name is Bob and 2 yrs ago I bought a PGO Metro 50cc (buddy 50). I love my scooter but I was wandering if I could get a little bit more juice out of it. Legally or Illegally. Right now my max speed is aroung 60km (37Mph +/-).

Thanks

Hello Bobgigger and welcome :) I have a Buddy 50 (same scoot with a U.S. name) There are many mods that you can do to make the scooter faster. There are 70cc kits, performace pipes, new slider weights, variators, all kinds of stuff. If all you need is a bit of a boost scooterworks sells a stage 1 kit which includes a pipe, weights, and a spring. If you want more than that then you'll need a big bore kit as well. Most of this stuff requires rejetting the carb as well. I've just started to seriously think about getting some performance mods myself. I'm trying to balance the performance with the reliability issues that you can run into as you start to modify the stock configuration. There are lots of threads here about modifying the scooters although most of them are related to the 125cc scooters. You may also want to look at the rattler/roughhouse board here since the roughhouse and the 50cc buddy/metro have the same engine.

well what is your budget
i can recomend a place in canada that is a great source for after market go fast parts and they are also a shop so if you live near them and you dont want to wrench they can do it for you
http://www.spmotostore.com/category_s/3121.htm

to give advice is hard without knowing what your overall goal is
do you want a fast daily rider
or do you want a screamer that is used as a toy

those are the first things that need to be decided that way you can choose the proper parts and combo of parts

and dont limit your parts to what you can get for the pgo or genuine in the states or canada europe is a great source of after harket parts for horizontal minerllie based scooters

there are over 100 diffrent pipes for these scoots and just about as many big bore kits

one thing i will say is be very carful getting parts off of ebay i have seen way to many people pay way too much for a part have a part not fit or have the part be of very poor quality

The first thing to do (if it hasn't been done already) is to make sure it isn't restricted. I don't know about Canadialand, but US-market 50cc scooters have speed restrictions on them to classify them as "mopeds" for import and licensing purposes. If the top speed according to the speedometer is 37mph, it sounds like yours might still have that in place. I'm pretty sure there's a demo in the forum's FAQ section that shows how to derestrict them, which (depending on altitude, weight, etc) can get you another 10mph on the top end. That's all I've done with mine, and I'm pretty happy with it.
