OMG !!!

I think they re-classify ones like that as Sink Holes, in York, (Pa.) last week they had a whole downtown-ish street closed and had to tear down a house because of what they said started as a pot hole!

That's what happens when you pave over a landfill.

Meanwhile, in Richmond, they've been on a "Pothole Blitz" where they've been filling potholes (they said something like 80-100 a day). Last night on the news, they said that most of those are failing because the stuff they used is only good for cold weather. So they'll be filling those again... instead of repaving... GAAH!

I really should get a picture of the roads and highways out here. There's craters on 64 that cause some serious puckering! Then there's the stretch of Broad street that's infested with tar snakes (imagine a 3 year old with a sweet tooth just learned how to drizzle chocolate on her desert... that's Broad Street).

I hate tar snakes, especially when it is really hot outside and you get that squirmy feeling as you ride along...

The road that I have to take to get most places currently has a big gap right down the middle of it between the lanes, whole sections of the dotted white line are crumbled away and there are areas that are 6 or 7 feet long that have a hole that is wider than my tires for that length. The lane parts are not too bad, it is just this area where the two lanes meet. I guess when they poured the two layers they did not get them to join up very well and the water got in between and is breaking the edges up. It is a mess and I do not change lanes on that road without very careful consideration and planning for it!

I am not sure if they are going to pay a lot of attention to this problem because the main part of the lanes is in pretty good shape, it is just if you go to change lanes that you have a problem.

Man, here in Denver we get 'em bad. With Summer temps in the high 90's or low 100's and Winter in the @$$ freezing negative digits, the roads just don't hold up. Plus, we can have a morning in the teens with daytime temps going to the high 70's or more.

Right now, my commute is treacherous! Stupid 10 inch tires

Absolutely HATE them as well!!!!
My front locked up one night last summer when I approached a red light at an intersection after a light rain. I skid through all over the place, almost went down one direction, recovered, almost went down, high side, the other direction, my heart was beating like it was gonna jump outta my chest! Thought ran through my mind DAMN this is gonna HURT!!! I finally recovered with out the seemingly inevetable spill with nothing more than some pulled muscles on my back.......... Phew!

that is why the roads are so much smoother in norht east wi in the winter

the snow fills the pot holes

what can just as bad is the frost heaves and the road doesnt always go all the way back down or match up good when it does go back down so you have either a ramp or speed bump

then we have the joys of in the summer the roads exploding and leaving craters in the roadway

Speaking of roadways,I was just totally impressed when I came across this renewable energy concept for roadways known as Solar Roadways.With a 100k grant from the DOT,Solar Roadways is now in the initial phase of making it a reality.I only hope it becomes a reality in my lifetime.Anything you can think of as a negative of asphalt roadways are terminated with the Solar Roadways.

so true very true spring is a rough time the weather rocks and the roads suck

And watch out for loose gravel! Two major t-storms this spring still hasn't washed winter's residue away.
