Since the Blur is aimed more toward a younger crowd, the video would have been more effective if they used someone a bit younger in it. And I know this is going to be politically incorrect (I've never been much into politics), but more men than women would be interested in the style of the Blur so a hot girl inserted somewhere in there would draw more attention too. :)

Personally, I think that Genuine's off on the wrong foot with this video. If you're the type that's into the Blur concept, I doubt that having a light and cell phone charger in the pet carrier is gonna make you all weak in the knees with desire. I mean, one of the key features on this baby is the 220 F.I. engine, and they didn't even start the damned thing! At the very least, how about a follow-up with a 220i doing some actual street time? IMHO sticking to a "tupperware and toys" marketing approach is gonna land this Blur in the same no man's land as the previous models. It's a kick-ass ride, so why not a kick-ass campaign?

This is in line with the Stella video they unleashed last week. As with much of the stuff from Genuine, it's very tongue-in-cheek, and meant to be brimming with humor and just a dose of irony. Remember, this is the company that decided to call a Taiwanese scooter the "Italia."

I know owners and enthusiasts frequently want something more serious and factual from them, but history shows that they're often just trying to have fun with much of what they generate to communicate the Genuine vibe more than anything else. Marketing at Genuine isn't run via focus groups and demographic studies. It's much more of an instinctive, "That's a cool idea, yeah, let's do it!" kind of thing.

So, yeah, much of what they do may not satisfy all of our needs or expectations. They won't attract all possible buyers with this video, but it's just a part of all their efforts for the new scooters.

I don't know specifically what's happening with the new Blur, but I've heard about a ton of marketing and promotions efforts in the works over there.

Eric:

That's fine, and I do appreciate any opportunity to actually get a "live" view of the product. However, the fun, easy-going strategy didn't, on it's own, work out very well for the '06 and '07 models. Since the primary difference between the 220i and previous models is ostensibly power and performance, then I believe that that's where Genuine has got to make it's pitch. However, there may be something more substantial in Genuine's sales bag of tricks, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just chalk this first showing as an attempt to just get the the word out. Hell, what do I know about sales and marketing. I probably couldn't give away free Preparation-H at the Tour-de-France.

There's an added benefit to the 220: it has the same size tires as the 150's, and that means that there may be a whole fresh supply of those impossible-to-find 120/60-13's.

Well… I'm not sure that the low sales of the '06s and '07s were a failure of marketing. The first problem was that in the US, there's still a huge preference for classic/vintage styled scooters over sport style scoots like the Blur. The second thing was that most people expected the sport scoot to outperform the classic styled one and others in its class. That just wasn't true.

While many still prefer the classic styles to sport styles (me included), the new Blur looks different enough from the competition to be pretty unique. It's totally subjective but I think its minor facelift is a major improvement (no offense to older Blurs!), especially when it's compared to the Kymcos, SYMs and even the TMax and the SH150i.

And, finally, the performance should match expectations (or at least I think it will—haven't ridden one yet).

The Blur's appeal, though, is a strange and hard to pin down thing. In all honesty, I didn't really understand the appeal of the '06-'07. Not knocking it at all; just not my preference in a scoot. Now I look at the SS220i and I get a little lust for speed, handling and performance. Maybe I've changed!

That's just odd.

I'd save the extra week/month/year for the Blur over the Blackjack. You'll get a whole lot more bike for your money.

Sold the bus yesterday, was gonna get the carb cleaned & make a lil more $ but a lovely lady showed up & wanted a green bus on earth day. italia 50 is still for sale but i got a good start with the cash and i'm slowly explaining/pleading why a new blur would be a good buy.
I am getting hopeful now, but w/ my luck...who knows :)

I didn't think the video was that bad, but certainly rather amateur. I kept waiting for the guy to climb on it, if nothing else, just so I could get a better idea of the scale (it appears to be jacked up somehow, maybe on the stand?). I'm totally unfamiliar with scooter geometry (I ride a Buell XB12), and it would be nice to see how the Blur "fits". I was all gung-ho on a Rattler 110 until I saw a video of someone riding it and realized those bars would be banging my shins!

I gained final approval (wife) for the expenditure and am patiently awaiting the arrival of the Blur SS220i.

WHEN?! WHAT IS THE DELAY?! COME ON!

Ok, maybe not so patiently. Please hurry, Genuine.
