Damage estimate

Post by bgwss »

Just wondering if any other dealerships charge their customer's estimate fees to fix their scooter if it was involved in accident. My dealership is wanting to charge $185.

It depends on how badly it's been damaged. If they suspect that there might be frame damage, the plastics have to be removed to inspect it. $185 seems slightly steep, but an hour's labor is perfectly reasonable, especially since ideally insurance will be footing the bill for the repairs.

there is a lot of time that goes into the estimate
besides looking at the plastics to figure out which ones have to be ordered
they should take them off to ensure the frame is good and there is no mechanical damage

even in a minor drop you would be suprised at what can get damaged

at first glance my stella didnt look too bad but then we found the fram was bent and the coil was damaged and it had a bent rim

the shop and i had several hours invested in preparing the estimate for the ins company

Everyone is correct. It takes time to fully go through the scoot as the frame is easily tweaked.

What they are asking is ridiculous but they are probably trying to milk your insurance not you

Often (or at least occasionally) some or all of that fee may be waived if they actually do the repair work.

They could put hours into inspecting a crashed scooter, only to have it totaled by insurance, in which case they've done hours of free labor.

$185 sounds steep to me, but it's certainly plausible depending on how the scoot was crashed, where the damage is, etc.

This might have been covered, but recently my scooter was hit by a van at an intersection. My insurance covered the fee from the dealer to determine the total cost. My agent did say there was a limit they would pay for that estimate, roughly 90.00. Of course that is exactly what the shop charged. Total damage: just under $900.00 - still waiting for pieces parts.

My estimate was $90, too.

I agree that the dealer has the right to charge a 'reasonable fee' for the time to inspect the scoot. $185 does seem high.
