Forum suggestion

Post by daglafe »

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or anything like that. I'm not. I'm a big fan of this board. I have been for a long time. That being said, here's the suggestion:

On several other forum based boards like this one I’ve noticed the option to turn off avatars and signatures in the profile area. As I am forced at times to use an archaic dial up connection, this would be a nice feature for me and perhaps some others not wanting to have to deal with images loading every time.

Since the board is phpBB based, like others I’ve seen, I’m not sure if this would be an add on or just an easy change.?

Thanks for listening.

Cheers,

Dag

Why not just turn off graphics in your browser when dialup surfing?

In Firefox go to Tools/Options/Content and uncheck [load images automatically]

In Internet Explorer go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Multimedia and uncheck [show pictures]

Probably not going to turn off avatars or graphics.

Hey, Daglafe...

You're saying that on other phpBB boards, in your personal profile you can opt to not display others' avatars and sig images, right?

I'll try to find out if we can do this, but it sounds reasonable enough. Though I'm not empowered to make any such change, I can at least add it to the list of "to dos" when it's time to make some changes. We're due for several at this point.

Thanks!

Also, my favorite message board......scout.com.............you can direct your cursor to the topic and it'll pop up the first few words of the first post so that you can get a better idea of what it's about. This is nice and keeps you from clicking on a bunch of threads you don't care about.

Might be a nice addition here.
You don't wanna get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner Dottie, a REBEL.

Yep. Thanks ericalm, I have seen this done on other phpBB boards just as an option for each user, nice feature. If it helps I'll ask about the mod and see if it is very difficult.

It's really not a huge deal, but has nome bonuses for a few of us.

Thanks all for the replies.

cheers,

I wasn’t suggesting turning off the graphics permanently paige, that would be kinda selfish of me  . Its just an option for avatar and signature control for each individual user. :)
