Speedometer problems

Post by Far2go »

I just picked up my new 2007 Buddy 125 last Friday. With all of 4.1 miles on the odometer the speedometer and odometer stopped working. :( Otherwise it seems to be running fine. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there any reason the it wouldn't be safe to continue riding it?

Speedometer cable or pick up broke. Just bring it into the dealer for a warranty fix, it shouldn't take long at all. No safey issue unless you have trouble judging speeds. It might be a legal issue if a cop pulls you over, though.

Open up the front cover and make sure that the speedo cable is still attached. Mine unscrewed itself on my motorcycle once. If it is loose, just screw it back in. It'll save you a trip to the dealer, and it's very easy to do..

That happened to me after 96 miles. What happened is the cable fell off. If you are handy, you can do as people suggested and remove the cover. There are 3 screws and several tabs to deal with.

I took mine back to my dealer and he struggled with getting the cover off for a few minutes. It took him about 20 minutes to complete.

If there are any dealers in this forum, I would suggest adding tightening the speedometer cable as part of your prep because this is a VERY common problem.

Just an additional thing. There is another screw that holds the chrome piece of the headlight that needs to be removed too.

What needs to be removed is the top panel that the speedometer is in.
