Cowl protectors on SI... cool or not?

I'm curious if anyone has seen an SI with a cowls protector? I'm thinking of putting one on to make it easier for two, but I don't want to ruin the look of the scoot... it's very retro now, and I'm wondering if the cowl pro is to "modern" looking?

I agree, that might take away from the look of the scoot.......you know they do have just the rider pegs that will fit the buddy 125, that might be a better option and not take away from the classic look of the scooter.......just a thought...

I ordered the cowl protectors for my SI from Scooterworks. Unfortunately they left out the left side piece, so I won't have any pics until Friday at the earliest. Right now I have the ET4 footpegs and would be happy to let them go for a fraction (half?) of the current retail price once the cowl protectors are installed.

I'm all for chroming-out the Italia -- the more shine, the better!

Cowl protectors are actually consistent with a vintage-looking scoot—you'll see them on a lot of old Vespas & Lammys. The thing is, the Buddy, for all its vintage appeal, doesn't have proper cowls so the chrome may only accentuate its modern appearance. But I think they look pretty good and they're relatively inexpensive, easy to mount & remove, etc....

Not just Vintage Vespa's

Being I've been involved with as a scenster and musician in the ska scene for...16+ years

I LOVE the vintage look. I personally think that the cowl protectors are smart looking AND functional!

Chrome on classic cars looks hot too, why not a scooter?!

How much to they weigh and will it slow down my scoot?

I know, I know buy something bigger than 125.....I'm all about the speed this bad boy can generate.

Thanks for all the input!

I had the rear rack/cowls put on today and they look great. I noticed no difference in pick up speed at all... the Buddy 125 has enough juice to handle that bit of weight easily.

My folks are on an Alaskan cruise and have my digital camera for the next week, but as soon as I get it back I'll post some pictures.

BTW Pride of Cleveland scooter shop rocks. Great service, great workmanship, good folks.

I ordered from Scooterworks also and did not receive the right side. They need to start checking the packaging before shipping.

Yeah, but they shouldn't have missed it in the first place. Something is obviously wrong when two people have the exact same shipping mishap in the same week.

Yeah, interesting side story: I ordered a few things from them, in particular a rubber Buddy keychain. They sent me a pewter Stella keychain. I called them and they were very nice, said they would send out another and to just mail back the pewter one when I had time, no big deal. I received the rubber Buddy keychain pronto, and sent in the pewter one. Two weeks later in the mail I get...another Buddy keychain!! I thought if I sent it back I would probably get two new pewter ones...so I decided to end it there.

They're nice folks and have good products but their shipping department...hem.

yeah, my comment was more about the fact that the buddy doesn't really have "cowls" to protect in the first place, as opposed to the more traditional scoots that have the engin mounted on one side, and a spare or some other crap on the other, and a large metal cowl on both sides for protection...

As a scooter virgin who has dropped my Buddy a few times already (once when I parked it on the street with only the kickstand in order to have a conversation with a friend who was passing by), I don't care much whether the damn thing really has "cowls" or not -- I just want to keep from scratching it up.

Yep, I was putting the rack on the back anyway, so I thought a bit-o-chrome would look good, and I liked the look on POCPHILS cherry bomb, so I'm glad I did it. Also, the foot rests come in handy for the short "with passenger" jaunts I take. I do get the fact that the body is pretty much "cowl-less"

Basically, Genuine has taken a modern Taiwanese (PGO) bike (a great one) and "retro'd" it a bit, which is odd, but nonetheless works. Some purists may disdain this (haven'y meet any yet, but I'm new to the scene), but the history of scoots is to modify beyond all recognition , so I'm all for what Genuine is doing

My next little project is to modify the lights so the stock ones work with the DOT reg lights up top. Having a blast on my new scoot, and I'm planning on gearing up a bit soon... new noose chain/lock combo (I hang in some iffy places sometimes) , Corazzo jacket (The Max), Red Wing boots (really like the side zip/low heal motorcycle pair). All is good, and I hope to ride with some folks from POC soon.
