A great combination...

Post by Mikie M. »

I just finished with what I think is a great set-up for a Buddy 50. The motor has been kitted with a Prima 70 kit. The carb is stock. The main-jet is stock. The reeds are Boysen Dual-stage. The air-cleaner is stock. The muffler is stock. The variator weights are 6 gram Dr. Pulley sliders. The clutch and contrast springs are stock.
Accelleration is excellent, and quick up to 30 mph, then smooths out all the way to 50 mph indicated. There is no harshness when going on, or coming off the clutch. It cruises at about 3/4 throttle at 45 mph, smooth and quiet (quiet, of course, being relative to a 50). The spark plug insulator looks like light toast.
All that's left is a little more pin-striping.

Happen to know/remember what the stock rollers were?

Good to hear things are going well!

Your repeated use of the word "stock" has me... intrigued. :) I could use another 5-10mph going up hills.

8 grams. I weigh in at 250 pounds, so a bit lighter set of rollers/sliders seem to work a bit better for me.

I'm older than a lot of folks here, and back in the day when we were talking about original parts versus aftermarket parts we referred to the OEM parts as 'stock'. In other words you could find them 'in stock' at the local dealerships. You youngsters crack me up. :)

No, I know what stock means :) I'm cracking a joke. The regulars around her e know that my bike has been anything but stock for a very long time.

My '08 Buddy has a 250cc Vespa GTS engine in it right now.

If an out of control OEM Buddy ran through the front of a grocery store, would you call it a 'stock' market crash? :)
