That bites. Lawyers and statisticians, that's what insurance companies are made of. And you can't trust either group, if you ask me.

when i had my accident, the insurance company tried to settle with a used value, also. when i told them the warranty doesn't transfer, they changed their mind. maybe cuz it was less than a year old? i suggest being firm.

Could you possibly find a third party to appraise the would be value of the scooter? Perhaps from Geniune or other scooter dealers? Be sure you get used retail pricing for a replacement, not Craigslist values.

It may be tough since you obviously don't have the scooter but that's what I did once after somebody turned in front of me in my '64 Ford Fairlane. I owned the car less than a week so they were all over giving me what I just paid but I had it appraised & got more money than what I paid for the car. Just because I got a good deal on the car does't mean I should get short changed on the compensation.

*UPDATE* Got a call from Metropolitan Police (DC) this morning. Sweetpea was found ditched in a housing project in Northeast Washington overnight and taken to a salvage yard. I had just gotten the settlement check from Geico a few days ago, so I no longer have custody or ownership of the scooter. I didn't go see it yet, I won't have access to the yard until Wednesday when I'm not working and the claims adjuster authorizes me to reclaim her personal effects inside. I was really hoping they'd nab someone on it and pin a grand larceny or possession charge on them, but I wasn't so lucky. Jule had a few valuables I hope to still find in the top case and pet carrier that are worth a bit to us, a pair of sneakers, a helmet, and her Xena lock (which should've been on the wheel in the first place). We've moved on, but still feel violated.

The settlement we received was fair enough in my opinion. We came out ahead in the end and if we want another Buddy, there are sweet deals to be had, it's a buyers market. I really have my hopes set on a Piaggio MP3, but we have other priorities at the moment.

The perp may not get punished, but at least he didn't profit from it. Hopefully this at least gives you a bit of closure.

photos from the GEICO claims rep at the yard. It looks like whoever stole it or bought it stolen was using a replacement ignition, removed all distinguishing decals, and ditched the topcase so they can deliver pizza.

In the old days they used to tie horse thieves they caught behind the horse and drag them around. It would work much better with a scooter. Then they would find appropriate tree and a rope. Ah...the good old days. Every time I have to drag my sccoter to its safe "perch" for the night I feel positively nostalgic

I guess because it's a petty crime (no offense) the cops had no interest in catching the perp?

It seems it would have been pretty easy to watch the bike until the idiot decided to deliver a pizza then arrest him.

Interesting resolution, especially the fact that the insurance company now owns it anyway. I know in similar situations with cars sometimes they let you buy it back from them for even cheaper, but it really depends.

The amount they settled was definitely reasonable, I'd even say you got off quite well if you had extra after paying off the loan as that often doesn't happen (vehicles devalue fast).

The Genuine dealer here in Seattle has a brand new Rattler 110 for $1700 apparently! I was half tempted to buy it just on principle since I paid a lot more for mine a couple months ago.

For the new place, if you have an assigned spot they may be willing to let you drop a concrete block or a bolt to chain the scoots to.

we just got Julie's new ride. This was the ride back from Scoot Richmond, and she was totally stoked. Now it's time to accessorize and add a bit of flare. Big thanks to the folks at Scoot Richmond. Now I'll let this thread die off again

That is a lovely scooter, tell your wife to ride it in good health and enjoy the great weather we've been having. Love all of the bling that scooter came equipped with.
