Hand Grips - Greater Circumference - Better For Me

Post by twharton »

I installed some new chrome hand grips last night. Aside from the visual improvement (IMHOP) which was the motivation for the change, I am more pleased with the slightly greater circumference over the stock grips.

For my hands this gives a much more solid feel and sense of control. My palms are completely filled where as I had to hold tighter on the slightly smaller stock grips.

Just my $0.02

Santa brought me Grip Puppies for Christmas and they're great!
Increase the diameter of the grips and are really squishy and comfortable.

My wee mitts would like smaller grips, actually. Meh.

But yours look sharp! Some other scooterist bought the same ones a few months ago, and they looked great on his black scooter, too.

Here's a link with more pictures than you probably want to see and below that is only one photo.

So cool, I would actually like round grips contoured grips suck because when they rotate they are no longer the proper shape for your hand position and feel lumpy.

I'm new to scootering...how did you get the original grips off?

Are they ruined or can you put them back on if you wanted to?

There is actually a thread about this but I understand your concern and the fix is WD-40 and patience and elbow grease.

The grips will come in two slightly different diameters, for the throttle side and for the left side. When I installed mine two days ago the throttle side came off just my peeling/folding back the end and pushing on the other end and slowly working it. I made steady progress and it took about two minutes.

The left side did not work and I sprayed ever so little WD-40 in the space on the end and worked it back and forth. It seems to allow the gummy adhesive to release.

After I removed them the stock grips were unmarred and good as new. This is a huge deal for me as I excel at demolition without finesse. This time I removed them but preserved them.

When you install the new ones you will need to slightly increase the diameter of the receiving end. I just wrapped duct tape around until tight. The other thread recommends the same then using more WD-40 to slide them on saying it will dry or evaporate. I did not do this. Got enough diameter to make it tight and then forced them on but again no damage.

You can do it!

Quick Gulf Breeze joke:

Did you buy one of the orange Buddies, or did you buy a cream one and wash it with Gulf Breeze water? :P
Huh? What just happened?

Ouch...HAHA.

Guess what I'm doing right now...well taking a break between coats.

I'm painting the plastic cowling just below the seat a 'gulf breeze sprinkler stain rust' color. Just finished the first coat. Of course I will post photos later.
