Intro - heaviest Stella rider?
Hi, I'm Tony and I live in The Jewel City, Glendale California.
I used to ride motorcycles a lot about 20 years ago, but haven't ridden in a long time. I'm going to take the MSF (actually CMSP in California) course again, I took it in 1986 and it was very useful, and as a bonus if you pass the course the state will waive the motorcycle road test so I won't need to have or borrow a bike to take the test.
I've done my research and found that the Stella's maximum weight capacity is around 340 pounds. I've lost about 35 pounds so far, but I'd need to lose about 10 more to get under that limit. Of course we've all seen pictures from the Stella's home country showing entire families on a single scooter.
So, any 300 plus pound riders on this forum? How does the Stella stand up?
I've seen them and sat on one at NoHo Scooters, once I get my motorcycle license again I'll take a test ride.

I went to NoHo Scooters in North Hollywood and checked out the Stellas and the Royal Enfield Bullets.
As you might have noticed from my avatar I like classic style, and both of those bikes have tons of it.
As soon as I get my license again (Had one years ago, but the motorcycle endorsement got lost in a paperwork snafu when I moved to Hawaii) I'll take a test ride on both, then it'll be decision time.

Welcome. I'm a skinny 190, and wish I was the 150 I was 25 years ago, but we all live within the current parameters of our lives now.TonyD wrote:I went to NoHo Scooters in North Hollywood and checked out the Stellas and the Royal Enfield Bullets.

I have a Stella, and am seriously considering a Royal Enfield, as well. Nice bikes, and very classy. Whatever decision you make, remember: it's only money, and you can make more of that.

How many miles on it? My performance started to improve after initial break in, around 600-1,000 miles.DirtyRAT wrote:As much as I love my stella 4 stroke, I still find it underperforming when I need it: going uphill when speed limit = 50mph, or on steeper uphills. It's times like that I wish I had more CC's.
You can always buy a Stella, then sell it at a high price if you find it not up to spec for you.
Still, the Stella 4T isn't a freeway riding machine. I wouldn't ride a SoCal freeway (with any frequency) on anything under 200cc anyways. Honestly, even an Enfield probably isn't best for that type of riding (though it's capable).
I was at Bob's in Burbank last night with Mike from NoHo Scooters and there were 2 Buddys, my Stella and 2 Enfields there!

I hit 1269 miles today, and yes, performance improved since my 500 mile tuneup.
I just cant get the little SnotGoblin over 60. Not that I'd want to often, but once in a while having some headroom allows for the occaisional "oh shit, I gotta MOVE out of trouble now.."
Genuine's are everywhere here, too!
3 Buddys sighted today, along with 4 vespas, two stellas (dark blue and black!), and some horrid pit-bike looking thing whizzing by Vespa Motorsport.
(I found out they are out of all Stella's except for Yellow, and...Creme)

Where I live isn't very hilly, and I understand staying off the freeways. My motivation is that I'd be able to get a Stella a lot sooner than I could get an Enfield. I'll have to take a test ride to see if I can live with the Stella's performance. I've had a 550 (1982 Yamaha Vision) and a 750 (1983 Yamaha Virago) motorcycle years ago, but I was never a speed demon on either one.

Hmmm...combat green. What weapons did you add to it? Who says scooterists are exempt from road rage?! DO WANT.Steady Teddy wrote:DirtyRAT wrote:

Actually, we have three left... Yellow, Creme AND a decked out Combat Green left in stock. No idea when we'll be getting more in.
