Ok I was thinking about this for a good time now and I REALLY don't know. Now what i'm talking about is that I don't know if I should get a stella 2stroke or a 4stroke.
2 stroke stella: what I like is Very thing that I would ever need for this scooter I can get because of the PX150 and because of what a big hit the stella is/was. But the thing I don't like is how I always need to have oil on me and how after so meany miles I would have to put a new top head and piston what is goin to suck because i'm goin to drive this ALOUT.
4 stroke Stella. What I like is the colors of the new stella's and that now it's a 4 stroke so all what I need is gas and now oil. But what I don't like about is is that when you think about is it is almost like a 70% new scooter. Because the frame is new it's a 2 piece frame and the engine is all new and I don't know it it's goin to have a good line up of parts like the 2 troke does.
Buy the 2T now, because you'll never be able to buy a new one again. Then, when it finally blows up, wears out or you get tired of it (if ever), you can buy a 4T, which at that point will be a known quantity.
Has Genuine put out any lemons in its history? There's a point where I just trust a brand to make good on what it sells. If they aren't there yet, they're pretty close.
Yeah you'll need to keep some oil with you, but it doesn't have to be a quart (liter?) bottle. A lot of places sell smaller bottles that you could refill at home. I know some premixers that use a baby bottle to carry 2t oil
Low on oil? Toss your pint (whatever) into ther resevoir, fill your tank, when you get home, refill your scooters resevoir and your onboard reserve oil container.
As far as rebuilds:
First: I believe that with the synthetic 2t oils (after break in) top ends are lasting ALOT longer than they used to as long as the motor isn't heavily modified and is jetted and timed correctly.
I have a friend that rides the snot out of a derestricted People 50. At 30K miles he started having troubles. My first thought was...time for a rebuild. He took it in, compression was fine, top end was fine. it needed a CDI unit and air filter. That's it...he said it was running like it was new again (45-50 mph)
Second: A top end swap or rebore really isn't that difficult or expensive. The technology has been around so long that there is an incredible amount of information available from the basics to the extreme mods.
I'm not trying to talk you out of the 4T, if that's what you want...go for it! But the 2T can be a long term dependable daily rider.
I carry oil with me simply because I've ended up way out in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday and run out of oil. But you can cram a lot of crap in the glove box.

You don't check the oil level and top off if needed before you ride?
How far away from home/oil can you ride in a day to run out of oil?
On my '05 Stella, the 2 stroke oil was seriously not an issue: The glovebox more than holds an oil can and just about anything else you want in there. I had spare glasses, a small toolkit, flashlight, spare clutch cable and plug, papers, and a water bottle and it all fit just fine.
And, since it's oil injected just top off the oil tank every other fill up if you're that paranoid. Seriously, the oil issue is simply not an issue.

If by "top off" you mean adding an entire quart, then no.
Pretty damn far. Hooray for farmers willing to share their chainsaw oil. And by "run out oil" I meant low enough that I didn't want to risk riding 80 miles back to town.
I guess if I never left town, I wouldn't have to worry about it.

A quart of oil lasts at least 500 miles. So how pretty damn far do you ride on your day trips?
If you topped it off before you left (meaning adding whatever is needed to bring it up to full) you would not have to risk damaging your motor w/ random chain saw oil.
I think people are blowing this waaaay out of proportion.
