Prima Pipe fitment questions.

Post by glhboy »

So I got the pipe last week, decided to put it on last night. On the 2 bolts for the bracket in the back I can only get one on. Either bottom or top, but not both. The brackets don't line up very well at all. I think I'm going to pull the pipe off and put stock back on as I think top end was better with the stock pipe.

I ran into the same problem! I can only get the bottom bolt to go in half-way, with or without the muffler.. so it looks like i am going to stick with the new pipe. Did you use the two spacers that came with the pipe? They helped a little.

Two questions about the Prima:
1. General average cost?
2. Is it only fit for the Buddy or would it be a fit for Yamaha Vino, Bajaj Chetak or Vespa GT/150?

I ended up drilling out the stock threads and widening the hole to accept some new bolts. I'll have to keep the new bolts if I go back to stock, since the old hardware no longer fits.
I don't do much modding on the scoot anymore, just riding :-)

Yep, with spacers. I'm taking it off anyway til I get jets and rollers in my hands to help with speed.

Tbone, as far as I know this pipe was built specifically for the Buddy 125.

When you put the pipe on did you also change the rollers? If so what size/weight did you go to and did it add any top speed? Also did you have to rejet?

I have the prima exhaust installed and was running a little lean so I decided to rejet. After rejetting, acceleration is quicker. However, I am still hitting the same top end. I havn't seen a change in gas mileage, but will report back after I've used a few more tanks. I might re-weight with heavier weights so I can hit a higher top end and take some of the rev off of the engine when I'm cruising at the higher speeds.

As far as I know it won't fit any other scoots. If you want something for your Vespa, there are a number of options out there, most around the same price. Check the Motorsport web site.

Question, how do you know if the engine runs lean?

By checking the color of your spark plug.

A dark brown spark plug means the engine is running too rich.

This is the color that you want, a nice golden brown, this means the engine is running normal.

Oh yeah...

Hmm, this is a good reason to find the spark plug.
