also, a question about theft...

Post by lindsey »

so, i am an apartment dweller in chicago, without a garage. my buddy 125 will be parked on the street each day/night. i purchased the cords for locking as well as a u-lock, along with a cover. is there anything in particular i should know to deter potential theives?

If someone really wants your scooter they'll find a way to get it.

Isn't there any way you can put it out of sight? Having to leaving it on the street all night, even with locks and chains and covers, sounds pretty "iffy". If I were you I'd sneak it in the front door, slide it in the elevator and sit it in your living room and then lock it down. Make the thieves have to work for it.

Good luck....

ha! totally.
i actually live in the coachhouse apartment that is only accessible via a very narrow walkway with a chain fence and brick wall on either side. even taking my bicycle through it can be a tight squeeze - so i don't really have a choice. SUCKS! i wonder if there is some sort of alarm i can put on the scooter?

Something like this might work.

Also search "Alarms" here on this forum.

There are several treads dealing with theft and different alarms systems. Check them out.

how about checking craigslist for your area to see if anyone has a locked garage space for rent? i know, could be pricey or out of your range, but then again, you may get lucky. :)

if you can't find a more secure location for the scoot, then i'd recommend getting a really good chain lock that covers a decent amount of cash if the scoot is stolen... i just picked up an onguard beast 5016L and it's covered up to $1400... it's the thickest chain and the best theft-coverage return out there as far as i know... but girl, this thing is a beast... it weighs about 20lbs... when it's not locking your beautiful orange scoot it will work well as an exercise machine by simply holding it...
