I'm meeting a seller who is selling a 2010 Buddy. What markings or VIN numbers will indicate that it's a 125cc bike. The picture I've seen is very small and I can't make out any badges on the outside.
Also, has anyone tried fitting one in the back of a Honda Element?

The 125s all come with stickers in various places that say "Buddy 125". The other models have a different number (50 or 150... I assume the new 170s do too). The stickers can be changed, but it's very unlikely that someone would go to that trouble to pass a 50cc off as as 125cc. If you suspect that they are, check under the seat; if it's a 50cc there will be an extra reservoir near the gas tank to put two-stroke oil.

Also, if you are concerned about getting scammed on a 50, instead of what is marketed on CL as a 125, the Buddy 50s are 2T, so there would be a gas cap and an oil cap under the seat (and no oil dipstick on the side).
I measured the rear hatch opening of my element and decided the buddy wouldn't fit through it without some tricky angles. The fellow in the photo must have taken in in through the side door?
I got a friend who routinely puts his Stella in the back of his Element. I have put both my Stella and my Buddy in the back of my Dodge Caravan, though not at the same time. Without the mirrors, you just have to tilt the bike back and forth a little to get it past the entrance, then there is more room once inside.
Here is a pic of Buddy inside my Caravan:
