Idle question

Post by despurvoa »

So my 2009 Stella was sputting and sometimes dying out whenever I was at a stop sign. The Stella was also running a little rough in the lower gears. I was reading about adjusting the idle on stellaspeed.com and so I turned the idle screw a little over 1/4 in a clockwise position and the sputtering ended. Was this the right thing to do, or was this like putting a Bandaid on a bigger problem?
I haven't really heard a general consensus on this matter.
Thanks in advance for any insights. You guys/gals seem to know just about every variable that is responsible for these situations.

Well, raising the idle speed will almost always smooth out a slightly rough idle and may prevent stalling. But it may also just be covering up an idle problem.

Did the idle speed seem unnaturally slow before, or is it unnaturally high now?

It doesn't sound like its running high. It only has 300 miles on it, so I don't know if adjusting anything is premature. I drove it 250 miles last summer and 50 miles so far this summer.

Sounds like the idle was just set too low previously. You should be OK unless it starts running rough at the current speed.
