idoling high with choke pushed in

so after trying to get as much info out of my user manual as possible

i got to the section about the choke and noticed mine is (and always was) pulled out, the guy at the dealer that showed me out to ride it told me to leave it out (and push it in if the engine was cold)

the scooter seems to idol best when its alittle less than half way in.
and pushed all the way in it idols very high (as if i have the throttle reved all the way) then dies

any ideas on what i can check before taking to a service center

A high idle like that could indicate a lean condition...Not good. If you let the clutch out does it settle down and then rev back up as you pull it in...Or will the bike "take off" down the road at idle?

iT could be an air intake leak. Something you want to fix right away.

Other than that, check for a binding throttle cable.

New or used? Stock?

Yeah we need a little more info to help you out. Year, miles...etc

The proper procedure is...when starting cold...pull out the choke...start the motor and let it warm up for maybe a minute...then push the choke all the way back in.

It could be as simple as adjusting the idle screw.

83 miles on it (i bought it with 37 on it)
sat as a floor mod at a harley dealer for a couple of years

kinda had the same problem the other night.

Stock 08 stella new have about 80 miles on it. Bought it with 10. After riding it for 30 min came to a stop sign and while in 1st with the clutch pulled in it started to rev really high. I was lucky I was 100 ft from the house when it happend so I killed the engine. I parked it in the garage until I have time to fiddle with it. I was gonna check the plug to see if it was running to lean, any other suggestions?

it means that your air to fuel ratio is heavy on the air. Running rich means that the ratio is heavy on the fuel. Not sure if heavy is quite the right word but that's the gist of it :)
