Stella 4 stroke small problem.

Hey I was driving my scooter today and I drove it 10 miles and right when I did 50MPH and my scooter it maid a sound like if it wasn't in gear so I made shorw it was and it was LoL so I speed it up again and it did it again. So I pulled over and for 5 mins and started back up and it was fine. So what do you guys think

Now my dad said the engine may of wet because last night it was in a REALLY big rain storm because I was at work and he said that' why is that true or is it something else?

Either the clutch or the shifter. It may have the shifter cables out of adjustment and didn't quite go in gear...See if it does it again.

Did it "grind" a gear at all, going in or out?
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

Sounds like it was popping out of gear.

It could be one of two things:

1/ The cables may need to be adjusted

2/ You have too tight a grip on the left handlebar and w/o realizing it are rotating the grip popping it out of gear.

Motor 'wet' makes no sense whatsoever.

Yeah it happend again and it didn't grind at all when I shift in or out of gears and right when I let off the gas to a lower MPH it would be fine.

and when it happend this is the best way to put is so you guy know. Well I had a 50cc once and it should like a rev limter :?: and right when it happend I try hitting the gas and it was goin up SLOW AS HELL... I really don't know with this one but before this happend it was speed like CRAZY I mean it was doing 68MPH and this was the same day.... That was a first to.

This has been happening to me since Swerve and Curve (with about 1,100 miles at the time). It gets into gear with no problem but if I get it up to higher rpms (while still in gear) in 3rd and 4th gear, it acts like I'm slightly pulling in the clutch lever. It slides back into gear if I let up on the gas. I've taken it to the dealer/mechanic and they tried every clutch adjustment Genuine suggested but it did not solve the problem. We are waiting for a new clutch now. It's like a governor right now because I can't go much faster than 55 without it slipping out of gear. I am hopeful it is the clutch and not the transmission. I'll update after the new clutch comes in...

Is this your first manual transmission bike?

The funny thing is after I post this it happend one other time and that's it... I don't know :?:

No. I have ridden motorcycles for over 40 years. I've rode everything from a Honda sl70 and xr75 to a Gold Wing.

Good to know, as that rules out newbie error burning the clutch.

I have to say the clutch on my Stella did not feel as stout as on other shifter scoots I've ridden. But I still did not have any problems with it in 1100 miles (then sold)

I haven't ridden any other shifting scooters so I have nothing to compare it to. I realize there aren't hard gear stops like on a motorcycle (1 down, 4 up), but I agree it seems the transmission and/or clutch are a little loose. You really have to pay attention to hit each gear. Maybe that is normal for a twist and shift???

However, even with peculiarities, I'm finding my Stella more fun to drive than my Buddy. The Buddy is truly twist and go - you just drive it. Nothing to think about except avoiding cagers. The manual shifting changes the experience of braking, turning and accelerating. I still highly recommend the Buddy. The Stella is just different.

My first Stella 4T had slippery clutch because it had been abused as a demo. The cables were all out of whack when I got it and the plates were pretty trashed. We eventually replaced much of it and it was much improved.

Second Stella: crisp and clean shifting from day one. Same goes for another new Stella 4T I've ridden from the same dealer. (I was also better at shifting when riding these, heh.)

Over time, the cables are prone to needing adjustment, especially when new and getting stretched out. It's like a guitar with new strings: needs tuning much more than once they're broken in.

Not saying that's what's going on with yours, though…

Didn't you have it up on the freeway en route to Swerve 'n' Curve? WOT in 4th gear for a while? I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't 100% in gear and maybe wore something down.

Yeah. I went about 5 miles on the freeway before it acted up. I was running 60-65 mph when I was on the freeway so it didn't seem like it wasn't 100% in gear. It was a brand new clutch cable that was installed the day before Swerve and Curve. And now that I think about it, a few people on the ride looked at it and said the play in the clutch lever felt OK.

The clutch seemed a little off from the start. It would occasionally make a sound like the clutch bearings were bad when downshifting. I had the dealer/mechanic look at it and adjust it when I first noticed the sound. I wonder if it's a coincidence that I haven't heard that sound after the other problem developed.

Anyway, I'm optimistic the problem will go away after the new clutch comes in. I'm looking forward to meeting up with you LA people for some of your rides.

Taking mine to the dealer on the 10/22... Hope everything is ok and it's this me.
