Gear Oil

Post by JNV »

I have a hard time finding SAE 140 gear oil that is specified in the manual. Does anybody use something different with good results. Also, on your regular oil changes do you change the oil filter every oil change or every other oil change. A mechanic has told me on these small engines changing the oil filter every other oil cjhange is fine, I just want to verify with some of you that have more mileage on your scoots.
Thanks for any info.

According to the Buddy service manual, engine oil should be changed every 1000km and the filter should be changed every 5000km.

That oil change interval seems ridiculously low, only 620miles (not counting the first change which needs to be done after 200 or so). I AM changing my Blur's oil at that interval at the moment, because even though I've changed the oil twice now, I still consider the engine to be undergoing some break in. I'll change to synthetic next time, along with a new filter, then I'll change every 2000 miles or so and change the filter every 2nd or 3rd oil change.

I have found great results with Mobil 1. Use the Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-140.

The manual on the buddy says change the oil every 1000 miles and filter every 4000 miles. I would change the filter at every oil change...it's $10 at the most and an extra 5 minutes of time.
