what 2-stroke oil? new to 2-stroke sccots & new Rattler
I have a new leftover 2009 Rattler 110 & I am new to 2-stroke scoots...
owners' manual is very vague; what 2-stroke oil to use?
eg: dealer owner thinks factory fill is a conventional injector approved oil, but he sells Amsoil full synthetic oil (HP injector, Dominator); I topped off the oil tank with 1/2 quart of Amsoil HP injector to make a synthetic blend; to stay with a synthetic blend during break-in I grabbed some Pennzoil Marine synthetic blend (back of bottle states it can be used for injector system)
I guess what I'm asking is what kind of 2-stroke oil is NOT approved since the owners' manual is vague?

Oil
Don't use the TCW oils. They may be made for injectors, but they're for water cooled marine engines only. The air cooled engines run hotter and need a much different additive package to prevent coking. Using a full synthetic like Bel Ray SI7 or Amsoil Interceptor will help to prevent ring sticking and carbon buildup and in the meantime will give you lots LESS smoke at the tailpipe.

As as a side note make sure the oil will do 100:1, not that your scoot will ever get that high ratio, but for best results the oil should be capable of it.

Well, we will just have to agree to disagree on that one...all I'll say is that I'm certain I have you beat on "working on" experience...
The cheaper oils will lubricate fine, but I have seen lots of problems with them coking shut ports on smaller bikes, especially 50cc stuff. I've pulled down many mopeds and dirt bikes that had exhaust ports coked shut or close to it that you have to chip out the carbon. The pricey oils just don't do that...AND when you bore lots of cylinders you can see FAR less wear from the more expensive oils...And ( though it doesn't apply to scoots) the powervalves in racing two-strokes are VERY picky about the oil not sludging things up.

this summer I put it in my weed wacker & yes... it smells like strawberries when I trim the lawn (never noticed the smell on my scoots)

I run a Prima pipe on my Rattler 50 and I tried Yamalube 2S for my last quart of oil. I will just say that that stuff can't burn off soon enough. My first oil aside from the factory stuff was Belray synthetic which when warm burned smoke free but this Yamalube 2S is leaving a little smoke trail which landed me a citation to the tune of $192.
My next quart is Belray Si7, the full synthetic. Don't want the attention of the local law, especially the major prick I had to deal with.

^^^^ I have used SI-7 in my RZ500 and it works great.
I gotta ask...what the heck did you get a citation for?

I actually received 5 citations to the tune of $1505. The one in question was for vehicle smoking from the exhaust.viney266 wrote:^^^^ I have used SI-7 in my RZ500 and it works great.

I ran into a dickhead Sargent who was making some tall accusations on my behalf and I was arguing with him and proved him wrong. He proceeded to write a laundry list of tickets that he thinks he can get away with and then took me to jail.
This was two weeks ago Sunday. Tomorrow I file a complaint with Internal Affairs against the Sargent and meet with an attorney.
Most ridiculous thing I have ever been subject to!
