[NSR] Classified Moto: RVA ad man takes his hobby pro

Post by LunaP »

I read about this man in yesterday's Richmond Times-Dispatch.

He was working with the Martin Agency (a well-known ad/marketing agency, most known for it's hand in WalMart commercials), based in the RVA, when he got laid off. So he took his hobby and went pro with it, and within a year Classified Moto was up and gaining speed. Pretty cool.

He makes custom cycles, and his wife makes lamps out of old parts. Her lamps made it into Playboy magazine recently, as part of their holiday gift guide. The article said they'd like to eventually open a cafe or restaurant, in which one side of the joint looks into the Classified Moto shop. I believe in the article they described the vision as "a high end place where bikers feel comfortable hanging out", which I think is awesome also.

Not to mention getting into Top Gear Magazine.

(I didn't know there was a magazine... but they're in it!)

It's nice to hear a success story these days. Maybe I really can quit my job and sell birdhouses...

What they've done with the TwinStar is very similar to what Ryca has done with the Suzuki S40: http://www.rycamotors.com/

All very nice-looking work.

I actually think the lamps are quite tasteful, and would totally buy one... were they not $200.

I'm more excited about their idea for a cafe, and hope it comes to fruition. It'd be a fantastic place to go eat and drink at for Rallies here :)

"Were they not $200" is my sticking point too. Plus if you have a cool lamp like that, you have to get other cool looking stuff to match it, and so on and so forth. :(
