Fifth Annual SPEND-A-THON
Yes...I'm late...but things are a little different for me this year. However...since this is an annual event
Welcome to the Modern Buddy Fifth Annual SPEND-A-THON
The economy is not much better? So what!!!!! It's time to spend all that money you saved on gas over the last year! Your scooter didn't save you money? Well that's because you don't have enough stuff! Stop in at cash for gold! Sell a kidney!
The spend-a-thon will run from Thanksgiving to midnight New Year's Eve .
Please wander over to this thread every time you spend money on scooter gear. ANY scooter gear for ANY scooter!
Thats globally. All brands, A to Z including books, gear, oil, GPS and of course SCOOTERS!!!
Please post your spending in USD to make it easy.
( Do your own currency conversions easily at http://www.xe.com )
There's no need to mention much except the total $$ involved and the date I guess. But you are more than welcome to post a list!.
I will update the total every couple of days! Lets see just how much we can spend! Yes yes...of course cash counts too!
Got a gift under the tree or menorah or for Festivus (for the rest of us!) give it your best honest estimate!
For the first Spend-A-Thon out total was $14,354
viewtopic.php?t=2792&highlight=spendathon
Two years ago ended at $27,644.85!!!!!!!
viewtopic.php?t=9143&postdays=0&postord ... &start=0we
The third annual SPEND-A-THON total was
$30,097!
viewtopic.php?t=13726&postdays=0&postor ... d&start=50
Last year people really controlled their spending....STOP THAT!
The fourth annual spend-a-thon total was
$12,976
viewtopic.php?t=17218&postdays=0&postor ... n&start=50
As with last year, winners will be selected (or not) for whatever categories I make up!
LET THE FIFTH ANNUAL SPEND-A-THON BEGIN!!!!

I just spent $24.13 USD on thermal socks, and $3.14 on fleece gloves and beanie I intend on wearing under my helmet and winter gloves. I'm counting them as gear.
I just bought a whole bunch of gear 2 or 3 weeks ago, too bad you didn't post this sooner.
Oh and I had to replace a stolen battery last week XD. Want me to throw that total in?

Throw everything out there, if it's for the scoot, post it. And that includes the kitchen sinkLunaP wrote:I just spent $24.13 USD on thermal socks, and $3.14 on fleece gloves and beanie I intend on wearing under my helmet and winter gloves. I'm counting them as gear.

~$30 for TWO oil filters (one for future use) including shipping.
~$25 for oil.
~$3 for a 10 pack of 2A fuses, of which I only need one right now.
~$15 on fabric for a seat cover, still waiting to get the foot pedal and other accessories for my "mother in-law"s sewing machine. Tomorrow probably.
Overall, about ~$73 for the week.
My post Christmas/Kayak sale/Snowboard gear sale spending will probably be MUCH greater!

FirstGear Kilimanjaro in Hi-Vis yellow and black, $326.35, including tax.
I could have gotten it for less online, but I would have ordered the wrong size then had to spend much of the difference in shipping back. Plus I could try it on and bask in its incredible yellowness before paying for it.

I know Lokky has spent 297 on a new Scorpion modular FF,
I spent $2 on zip ties to string Xmas lights onto my crate,
$20 of patches from Scooterworks
...do scooter-themed Xmas gifts count?? If so, $40 on a secret
I'm sure we've also bought oil and things, but I don't know the numbers. I'll get back to you... we have to get oil change supplies anyway.

$338 - Towing/etc for totaled scoot.
$90 - Armored pants
$140 - New Boots
$90 - New Jacket
$135 - New Helmet
$25 - New milk crate, zip ties and bungies
$25 - New scooter cover
$843 this week!
Soon to spend another $3,000 to $6000 (we'll see how test rides work out) on a new scooter
Gosh... to think I got a scooter in the first place to SAVE money
If I include medical expenses I think we could blow out the previous year spend-a-thons, but I believe they are more Jaguar-related than scoot, so I will exclude them!

$239.00 for a new Hi Viz yellow GoGo Gear Cafe jacket
$ 32.00 for a couple of inexpensive sunglasses to wear under my helmet
So add another $271.00 into the total!
Though DH is getting a new Ural, one of the limited edition 70th anniversary solo bikes. http://www.imz-ural.com/m70/ The bike he's getting is in pictures 16-18 I think he put the down payment on it before the spend-a-thon started. Its on its way from Russia, so he expects to see it sometime late January. And I'll be purchasing some saddlebags and a tool roll for him.

$30 oil change supplies
$18 in scooter paraphenalia (ex, the starbuck's mug)
$24 on two knit, fleece lined jackets at Old Navy
$25 worth of thermal shirts (while Old Navy had them for $5!) both for layering while riding
"Santa" got me a portable air station for inflating scooter tires, which I know is about $60 on Amazon
and also a Firstgear Kilimanjaro, which could have been anywhere between $200-$300, so let's go with $250.
I didn't buy them, but they are my gear and SOMEBODY paid for them.
So, that's another $407

Well, I may stand a good chance on this one. Just spent $140 on a carb rebuild after screwing up the damn thing, and after $100 in emissions fees...
I get to find out that I need to rebuild the entire top end of my bike
AND the headset bearings are shot. AND there's a crack in the oil tank. "Less than 4k miles original" my ass!!!!
Dunno if it'll be under the 2011 year, but I'll looking at a heavy chunk of change for this damn bike. I think I should've bought a Buddy at the start and saved a few grand at this rate....
