GoPro Hero2 Mounting

Post by tommyred »

I was a good boy this year, and Santa is getting me the HD Hero2 Motorsports camera

I have a Buddy 125 with a windshield, and was looking for mounting advice from those of you that have a GoPro. Like where's the best places to mount them? And do the adhesive mounts stay on really good? Santa is also getting me the helmet mount, tri-pod adapter & BatteryPac.

I can't wait to start playing with my new toy :D

So, where did you end up mounting the GoPro HD2? Post a vid!

I don't have a Buddy (yet!) but I do have a GoPro HD and a motorcycle. I wasn't super keen on the adhesive mounts, not for fear of them failing (if you mount according the the instructions they should hold very well, but I'd recommend using a safety tether just in case) but just because I didn't like permanently (more or less) sticking something to my bike. I got this and this. I also use the suction mount included with the motorsport package. Not sure if there is enough handlebar showing on the Buddy for the first, but you might use the second on the front fork. The low angle can be pretty cool.

Front cover vs above the headlight is an interesting choice. Above the headlight, it turns with your handlebars, on the front cover it'll always point straight ahead.

I've see others use the tripod mount and various clamps, gorilla pod, etc for other movable mounting options.

I wasnt too keen on the adhesive mounts either...put one on my helmet and like it better'n I expected. They can be removed without grief btw.

When I first mounted it to my helmet, I noticed the next morning it was a bit crooked. I pried the edge up slowly with a screwdriver and got it off pretty easy, and put it on straight. Then I took a ride to the grocery store down the street at dusk. It was the 1st time I've been on my scoot since i went down on Nov. 13th, then had a scheduled surgery a week later, which required me to wear a wound-vac. I'm still pretty limited as to what I can do, but I just had to hop on Big Red & check out my GoPro :-)

Great question, and one I have been trying to work out a good solution to.

Here's my GoPro experience...

Chestmount: I have been using the chest mount for my GoPro. You get a cute/nice view of the Buddy "dashboard" and the road in front of you. It works great and is easy to reach the buttons, but you know how tricky the buttons can be to press - especially with gloves on. TODAAAAY I bought the new Wi-Fi/Remote BacPac, so I am really excited to use it (the remote attaches to your wrist). Here are some examples of GoPro use from our club (we have a couple of cams in our club):

A section of Hwy 41 coming back from Blue vs. Grey

Our camping trip (some shots from my chest mount, some from a front mounted Vespa)

Last Halloween when we were in the Little Five Points Parade

I tried the suction cup mount, but it needs a VERY flat surface and the only close-to-flat surface on my Buddy is on the top-case. I tried it there and it was far too bouncey and fell off.

I want to try a curved mount for a lower angle that would have the front tire in the frame but don't want to damage my Buddy. I was thinking about trying to make some velcro/strap/mod thing to attach to the kickstand or something...any suggestions? [/url]

You could also use a Z bracket from the mirror post. It would the be a flat service you could attach the camera to that would not get in the way.

something like this

and then create it into a custom mount.

So I bought the GoPro bike-handlebar mount and put it on my front rack, but there is a little "shake" to it, especially at stop lights. Any thoughts on reducing shake?

I want different angles, but the chest mount is by far the best option right now.
