:headache: Yeah. I actually remember that post now that I read it- I remember having the hardest time trying to type it. Drugs. Lots of drugs.

I've been wanting badly to get on and update for a while. I can get on MB on my phone like I have FB, but typing a longer entry is way more comfortable on my laptop, which I finally have I hold of today... I stayed up paying bills last night. If we're headed for extra irony points, when somebody posted about scooterrelief.org, I posted that I thought it was a fantastic idea and was going to try and find a spare $5 for everybody on it, because you never know if you'll be on it someday yourself. If that's my entry into the world as the next Miss Cleo, I'll decline the position.

I just want to say that I am stunned and thankful to have received so much support and well wishing over the last week or so, you all are truly good people and it's so sincerely heartwarming to get on here or FB and see how many people care.

I have what is supposed to be my last surgery in a little over 24 hours. After a giant debacle during my surgery on Friday, I'm dreading and downright scared of it. There hasn't been a lot of talk about what comes after the last of surgeries. I imagine I'll be in the hospital for several days; since we're doing more skin grafts I'm sure they have to be monitored. After that, I know my family and some of the docs and I have talked about wanting me to go to a rehab facility, rather than at home rehab or something. But as far as what my leg is going to be like, how much mobility I will be able to gain back... I think we'll have to wait and see. It's going to be a long road, methinks.

I am in contact with a lawyer, he came to meet me yesterday. He has a distinct air of I-kick-ass-and-take-names, and was up front, which I enjoyed. So hopefully within the week I'll have some idea of what kind of compensation is even possible. Until then I just have to hold my breath.

Again, thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers and vibes. It really means a lot to me. *sniff* Lokky and/or I will continue to update.

Glad to see a post.

I believe once you're knitted back together, a lot of what mobility you'll get back is how much PT you do. Legs are a tough gig because of knee and ankles, but if you push it a bit then usually there's a good chance of recovery. If you're like me you'll just have a couple joints that tell you when a storm is coming :P.

Speedy recovery!

Glad to see a post from you Luna!
I hope all goes well for your next surgery, and a healthy and speedy recovery for your leg and other broken parts in PT/OT/Rehab. Legs are tough, but I think you'll get through it, and like Skully said, you might end up with some bits that let you know when a storm is coming, but that's better than having serious mobility problems! Good luck and mine and Tom's best wishes to you, Lokky, and your family.

I also try to get to MB during the day on my phone but although it displays pretty much like it looks here, it's almost too small for my 50+ eyes.

I made it through my last surgery. Last surgery for a while, anyway. The patches where they took skin from hurt a lot  They are trying to ease me off some of the painkillers, while adding things that hurt, so the docs and I aren't seeing eye-to-eye about that right now.

I am still anxious to know what kind of healing time is involved for the grafts and how that affects when I can begin rehab, how long I am in this bed before I move somewhere else, and where that somewhere will be.

I got the guts up to look at photos of poor Sailor Scoot. They actually aren't as gory as I anticipated them being, but they were stilll upsetting. My first vehicle I ever bought on my own. I had dreams of riding her to 20, 30, 50k. She'd just hit 3,000. I am hoping that my lawyer is very positive the next time he talks to us. :sigh:

As an aside: I've GOT to stop trying to make updates and posts at like midnight. Computer and phone both turn into magical hypnotizing devices and it takes me hours to achieve the typing of anything significant or cultivated.

Thank you. I haven't felt very brave the last few days. Pain meds are a bit of a roller coaster. I'm scared of the OR now, after a procedure where I woke up early; tired of going under for things, it just makes me anxious. My collarbone hurts something awful, so PT is devastating and I dread it.

I'm not trying to complain, I know how lucky I am. It's just that things have become daunting.

Hi LunaP. Can't give you any advice on the leg, but sure can with the shoulder. I had an accident about 8 years about which left me with a level 3 tear in my AC joint. Bascially the end of my clavicle is no loger connected to the spur on the scapula, so now it just sort of floats around

Hurt like hell during rehab, but make sure you do everything they tell you to. I regained 100% mobility in my right arm by doing what they said to te letter. It might sometimes be frustrating but stick with it. Muscle atrophy will be your biggest problem to overcome, so make sure you do all the exercises they give you. No matter how trivial they may seem, they're for a reason.

Get well soon. ;-)

Hey Luna, Has the driver that hit you come by? If it was me I'd be a wreck with worry and grief. Any sort of apology? I'm hoping his insurance is good and everything will be covered but I would think he'd at least show concern.

An attorney would probably advise him not to, as it could "complicate" any litigation against him.

TVB is most likely right. Although I can't say I'd want to see him. I think that would upset me a lot or maybe anger me to hear from him. Maybe that's not very noble of me, but true all the same.

As for his insurance, I have no reason atm to think that things won't go well in the ways of doctor bills and settlments and property replacement, but its pretty early on. Haven't heard back from my lawyer, so he must still be researching.

In your present state, it's understandable that you wouldn't be noble. You would have to be a saint. It is hard to be reasonable when you are in pain. You have enough to deal with right now recovering from the surgeries and the PT. Just focus on getting through that and let the lawyers hash out the rest. Praying for your full recovery. Good luck with that!

A guy who nearly killed me in a car wreck when I was 16 came to see me in the hospital. He was also a high schooler, and he brought his girlfriend who'd been in the car with him. I honestly didn't appreciate the visit. I'm sure his parents forced him to come. It was pointless and I was barely coherent.

I can't agree more, Luna. Take every last bit of PT offered, then ask for more. I had a [NSR] scopage of my knee done a few years ago and refused PT (what an idiot), assuming that I would magically start doing the exercises that I hadn't done before which got me in the position to need the surgery in the first place. :headslap: But after the clavicle surgery I recovered all the movement and nearly all the strength is back too.

If I were in your shoes and the guy showed up, I'd probably punch him in the face. Just sayin'.
I had a gnarly car accident almost exactly a year ago (2/20/11) with a guy on a cell phone (in a BRAND NEW GMC SUV of sorts) that ran a light and t-boned my car. If I ever saw him again I would probably kick him in the shin, call him an asshole and run away laughing. Thankfully I was just totally shocked and hysterical, but I still have problems from my right knee smashing into the center console, lets me know when it's going to rain now.

Anyway, best of luck. I second/third/whatever everyone else has said about PT. It sucks, but push yourself through it. If you want to end up with full range of motion without pain, your best bet is following every single thing they tell you to do.
However! If it seems like it's too much, too soon, be sure to tell them right away. You don't want to do more damage than good, but light therapy is better than no therapy at all!

Thank you lilguy. Lokky has been handling that- apparently scooterrelief.org has received my application, and is processing it. Or something like that. Mant people have asked, on and off MB. It wasnt something I wanted to do originally- but people from my club started asking, people who go to my shop that don't know me, just the wonderful girl who runs the shop and saw her post about me on fb- I was a little floored that people who don't know me want to give me money I hadn't asked for. Since I haven't even finished paying off the ortho bill from my broken hand... I feel like I can't look a gifthorse in the mouth. I'm hoping I get a crazy awesome settlement so that I can pay some people back, maybe ?_?

This has been the problem. Since I have a broken clavicle as well, PT has been super hard until recent;y, and some of the PTherapists haven't been very sensitive about it. But I plan to work as much as possible with PT, my family and I want me to go to a rehab facility when I leave the hospital.

Really? That really sucks. Everyone where I went was really professionally friendly; and everyone I have talked to has said nothing but good things about the therapists/assistants they have dealt with.

Any chance of going elsewhere (are you out of the hospital yet)? Screw those bozos and find someone else.

No, I'm not out of the hospital yet. I had a mishap in a surgery that scared the crap out of everybody and landed me on a different floor for a few days, and while I was on that floor the pair of PT workers were awful. Since I've been back on the ortho floor they've been better to me, but it's been tough. I've been laying down so much that sitting up makes my heart rate go up. PT is very interesting now, fo sho.

I am thinking of an encouraging reply to the PT workers who are "awful" to you and it may not be appreciated and/or it may not come out right so read between the lines as necessary to get the positive stuff out of it. I am old military so you can see where it came from:

Your PT worker is like a Marine DI (Drill Instructor). He is a slave driving hard-ass who will drive his recruits to the breaking point to weed out the weak ones who will let everyone down when the going gets tough. Please view the PT people as a DI. You are the tough one here and you have something to prove: You are BETTER than he is, BETTER than he thinks you are and you are NOT gonna let him see you fail. When it is all over most DIs are proud as new fathers at "his boys" that made it through. I think the PTs work the same way.

WE wanna see you back on the scoot enjoying the ride!

Thought it was time for another update. 8) I've been in rehab for a little over a week. There's been ups and downs, of course, but I haven't found the therapy itself overly difficult. It's mostly been strengthening exercises, and teaching me things to prepare me for my homecoming.

It seems that my discharge from rehab will be this coming Monday. I'll be going and living with my family for a while. When I leave here, I'll still be non-weight bearing on my bad leg, so I still have a long way to go. Home care has to come help change the dressing on my leg, and I have to use things like a shower chair, walker, and wheelchair. I have my first follow up appointments soon- one with plastic surgeon and one with orthopedist next week, so here's to hoping they go well.

My family has been amazingly supportive and I'm so thankful to have them- I don't know what I'd do without them. I'd really be screwed. As much as I hate them sometimes, they've really been a rock for me through all this. Especially my mother.

I haven't heard much from my attorney, so I'm still crossing my fingers and holding my breath over that. We found a way for my scooter payments to be deferred while I'm not working, and also may have found a program that MAY get the state to absorb my hospital bills, since I technically have no income at the moment. But I don't know much for certain right now.

But I'm looking forward to small things :)... a house that's familiar to me, better food, a real bed, not being woken up at any hour of the morning to take meds, not being asked when my last bowel movement was :| , etc.

It must sound terribly trite, but this, too, shall pass. Concentrate on enjoying what is enjoyable, ignoring what is not and appreciate what pampering you can get. We're all out here rootin' for you!

Keep your chin up, like your avatar, Luna, it will get better. Scars heal (I can barely see the one on my shoulder now). And be patient with billing, payment, insurance cos. etc. You may well be all healed up long before the billing is done!
